Could we have some info on James Lay.Was he a last minute replacement for Cortes. Did he or Cortes play last night. The ET site says Cortes was sent off with an ET player. Can find no mention of Lay on the offy site.

Lay played and was binned.
Gaston (more specifically Gastonís calf) failed a late fitness test.

His scrummaging was abysmal, with a side order of moronic indiscipline thrown in

Lay is on a short term contract from NewZealand. Too soon to judge I suspect, but comes with a decent reputation. If he is cited after last night it cld be we see very little of him.

Rugby Paper also says that Cortes was binned. How lazy are these journalists? Could have watched from the comfort of his TV and written a more accurate report.

With regards to Lay, watching the game back today it should have been a red and I'll be shocked if he isn't cited

Ok, It wasn't the smartest move but give the guy a chance. He's been drafted in to help us out - and his brother is coming next season, and he was thrown in the deep end at the last minute due to Gaston being unfit. In the biggest game of the season so far. I suspect he was desperate to impress and got a bit carried away

Fully agree

On the contrary, he's been drafted in specifically to provide a short term problem because we have a shortage in that position. Through his own stupidity we could now be another prop down and back where we were before we signed him. If he's cited and banned, I hope we can terminate his contract.

To be fair to the guy if he's not contracted to Super Rugby franchise he may not have played since the Mitre 10 which finished months ago and also wouldn't be in pre-seaon either. So coming in cold as a prop against the best scrum is a tough ask. Not that he should have thrown the punches but did he know about the TV match official and think he could away with it. Couldn't fault his effort though. If his brother is better then he should be a good addition.

Rugby Paper also says that Cortes was binned.

That's because TRP used the report from Ealing's offy - which also explains why TRP had an Ealing player as MoM even though he was rated "7" against Jordan William's "9" !

Paper ratings mean nothing as we all see the game differently and have our own opinions...
