Wasnít known at the time though. He was signed because he became available.

Itís known now though! We cleRly donít sign international players at a premium just because they are available; itís a long game. Charnley saw us through the 6Nís and then was allowed to leave

Wasn't known by us but likely known by the higher ups

Maybe. Though not what Charnley said. No reason for him to lie.

we need to hit the ground running at the start of the season if we are to achieve top 6 or even top 4.

Exeterís title winning season started with 2W 1D 4L. Hardly hitting the ground running.

Last year we had a whole new spine of the team at the start of the year:
Tarus and John at 3
Ross at 6
Strauss at 8
Faf at 9
AJ at 10 (given how little he played the season before he was ďnewĒ)

Next year weíll probably only have Ashton in the XV who hasnít ďgelledĒ yet and he usually does his own thing, playing off the cuff anyway.

Iím very envious of your Chris Ashton signing, Iíd have him back at Saints in a heartbeat. Heís just broken the Top 14 try scoring record and is hugely motivated to try and get into the England World Cup squad; for me he is one of the very best wingers/finishers in world rugby.

We had him as a brash kid, however life, a wife and the strife a baby brings has matured him greatly. Iíd be amazed if he isnít a massive success for you. With a happy home life now being back in the North West, he can just concentrate on his rugby free from distractions.

Do we know how long a contract he's been signed on?

Hhmm, good question. Canít see anything which probably means itís short, probably a year to see how his RWC hopes so. If it doesnít earn him a recall he may well on the way.

He'd better be playing off the cuff. Theres no point signing a sniffer like him and asking him to be positionally disciplined. I'm pretty sure he'd do what he likes anyway. He's Chris "the Splash" Ashton.

I'd prefer him to have some positional discipline when the opposition has the ball!!

Going to be fun though, and a nightmare to defend against. Both Denny and Ashton have that ability to appear out of nowhere, and read situations. With Van Cannonball's ability to punch holes, James' hands, and AJ's eye for a gap there should be plenty of opportunities. Yarde can probably stick to his wing a bit more, as can McGuigan.

Isnít that four back threes playing?

Don't you know we don't need a Loosehead prop?! Keep up!

Was thinking that Yarde and Mcguigan were likely to rotate. Though playing an extra back is an option.
