Just seen this morning London Irish have announced 16 players leaving during the off season, some of their main hitters too.

Josh Basham, Arno Botha, Joe Cokanasiga, Darren Dawidiuk, Ben Franks, Todd Gleave, Alex Lewington, Will Lloyd, Lasha Lomidze, James Marshall, Senitiki Nayalo, David Paice (retired), Richard Palframan, Tom Smallbone, Aseli Tikoirotuma, Johnny Williams, Tom Woolstencroft, Piet van Zyl

We have been there a few times ourselves so know how they feel.

Will be interesting to see who they replace them with although we have also been there too, when most of the players in the league have already found new contracts and the only ones left are the scraps.

Might make next season more interesting, however where will their main threat come from?

Ealing seem to be making signings and splashing cash and we, for once, seem to be ahead of the game.

Time will tell though!

Interestingly enough, has Phil Daly left us for them? The players' leaving announcement was squirrelled away at the bottom of the article about their end of season dinner. Classic Carnegie Media Team right there! lol

They have signed Myler at 10.

We need more quality.

London Irish have failed under the recent regime - pundits thought they had enough quality players to avoid relegation at the start of the season. They now have a new management regime (with the highest pedigree) so clearly they feel a need to sweep out the old and bring in the new.
They still have a massive (in Championship terms) parachute payment to spend so I, for one, will not be underestimating them.
Could be a really interesting season coming up - but we need more than so far announced if we are going to compete as JDH says.

I wonder how many of those 16 will end up at Ealing? I think I am right in saying the last time they came down they kept the core of their squad, whereas this seems to be quite a big clear out. It will be interesting to see if those players end up going to AP clubs or Championship clubs, and where they are going to get replacements from. There was a suggestion in the Guardian last week where they though Jackson and Oldring might find a way back into rugby through the Championship or French second division, but I guess if they have just signed Myler it won’t be at LI.

Agree with JDH though, we need more quality. Can only hope that they are still working on the squad after the initial flurry of activity at the end of the season.
