Manu Tuilagi: Leicester Tigers consider injury dispensation replacement
[www.bbc.co.uk]

Seems lesson learnt from last season and we are looking for a replacement earlier this season.
Find it very odd there is no mention of Owen!? Unless he is mentioned in full interview.

O’Connor said: “Gareth Owen is still a couple of weeks away having missed a big chunk of pre-season with a neural back issue. That means he hasn’t got enough ‘k’s’ under his belt at this stage. But he has been promising in the A League and he is a guy we would be confident will do a really good job for us in midfield.”

It was mentioned on the injury piece of the merc.

(Hoping Evans does get a start).

Signed another crocked player? Cilliers also out crocked with the same groin problem and time as last season.

Can't help but feel that with talk of signing injury cover we are at the start of another protracted absence for Manu.
Supposedly 12 weeks out, already been nearly 2, couple of weeks to find somebody & get a deal done, couple of weeks for them to get here, acclimatise, learn the playbook, start playing, get up to speed. Hmm.......
Also shows the flawed nature of the squad building,if an injury to Manu has them scratching around for a replacement. Did they honestly recruit on the basis that they would do what nobody has been able to do for about 5 seasons and keep Manu fit for the majority of games. Madness, IMO.

Which is what some of us said over the summer - too thin at centre - but we were told that it would all be ok.

I suppose we can hope that the replacement is already lined up and is a long term target.

Three games in and our injuries are mounting.

Manu - out for 12 weeks if we are lucky
Tom Youngs head injury last week, MOC says should be OK we will see.
Gareth Owen injured
Brendon O'Connor injure but may be OK
Kitchener - non contact training doubtful
Cilliers still injured
Tom Croft has he recovered yet?
Is Fitzgerald fit?
Dominic Ryan - Did/Does he have a head injury.

Some pretty wild speculation there John.

Well it will suit his current playing style.

Fitz is out for several weeks I believe.

Manu's 12 weeks is on the conservative side for his injury, but they won't want to rush him back. It sounds as if O'Connor is definitely out with a hamstring problem, but I wasn't aware of a problem with Tom Croft, who has been playing for the A league team. Word on the street is that Brady is fit.

Brady will help , he knows where to stand so wont leave barn doors open for the opposition wingers to run through .

John,

Fitzgerald was 3 months - Knee (about the same time as Manu's injury)
Thompstone - Neck
McGuigan - Thumb
The American TH Baumann is also missing?

Worse that I thought Simon.

Any one who turns up with his or her boots is likely to get a game then.

It`s like Deja vu every season , self inflicted weaknesses in squad depth .
Failing to plan is planning to fail, FFS.

This but long term no good as cover needed now.

Thought Tombstone was a broken finger or some such hand injury?

Sorry - what I meant was that (looking for a glimmer of a positive in this) it is possible that the club might have someone in mind this time that they couldn't currently entertain under the present cap position but might now be able to bring forward ahead of a longer deal.

It's small hope but hope still.

Ok, I can go along with that straw clutching to support your positivity as there ain't much to be positive about at the moment!

Interesting that Ben Kays tweet where he questioned the length of time off for Manu was removed soon after being posted saying Tigers were being conservative... 6 weeks was his time I believe

12 Weeks allows us now to sign another centre outside the cap...

Now if I was from another team....

Well we will see on that department.

Is it 6 weeks till match fit or 6 weeks till training?

So far as I can see, any time you are prepared to give a player 12 weeks off you can use the injury dispensation (if it even still is a thing after the latest salary cap updates?). I don't think they check medical records or anything.
