All......sadness all round!!

This is quite a sad post.....(not important in the general scheme of things really......) but it is just over a week until Fat Blokes 7s at Reading Abbey but following this year's tournament the founding team The Flatulent Fairies will cease to be. After 15 years of mayhem and frivolity Plumptious the Fairy will be hanging up her pink tutu and wings and shuffling (dis)gracefully into a well earned retirement......so all you former Fairies you are all invited to come along and celebrate all things FF...........There will be a 'Memorial' shirt later on all proceeds of which will be donated to Alexander Devine Hospice.

Au revoir Cheffy!!

It`a certainly been a journey. Many good memories to be had. (even though the Arabian Knights took an earlier retirement!) I still remember that inaugural match at Henley, pitch like concrete, cans of Spitfire Sport and Isotonic Stella, jumpers for goal posts..... No that's not right is it 😊

Happy memories of Abbey - what did we win there? The Plate / Shield? Trying to remember who played, but I think some of the participants were myself, Waldo, The Large One, AndyY, SteveR (?), GaryB, BigH, Kong + his mate (decent ringers!!), plus others!! Coughie, didn't you make an appearance at some point?! Who else played??

Of course we were all fit athletes, the kit had to be specially fitted to ensure that the 6 packs didn't scare the other teams off. Unless anyone has any photographic evidence to prove otherwise, we'll go with that story ;-)

Then the following year Newcastle turned up with a couple of south sea islanders plus one particularly obnoxious Geordie who just didn't get that this was meant to be fun, the Army put in a side (I think!) and it all got a bit serious and dangerous to health.

I remember one year we had a tricky decision to make on the journey through the tournament - win this game and we went on the tricky route, lose and we went on the easier route.

You can guess which was the chosen route.

We were refereed by Mr Ashley Rowden who observed that we "weren't really trying".Stunned that we were that obvious , we apologised.

His response was "well I can't ping you for not making an effort can I ? "

Class.

Remember those tournaments fondly- until teams were invited who took it all too seriously. Mind you, one year we had one guy on our team who was a non-rugby player and quite accidentally almost beheaded a couple of the opposition whilst trying to tackle.

Just as well the TMO wasn't in use at any tournament - no game would actually have finished before it got dark.

The less said about my efforts on the pitch the better; however I did drink Bungle's half-time pint of cider that Bristol had kindly given him; as well as my own of course. I gave up after I broke my arm playing against the Berkshire Fire Brigade - Kat and her friend very kindly gave me a lift to A&E at the Royal Berkshire hospital...

I remember the diplomatic incident when some drunken idiot asked the twin sisters who played for Reading Abbey for a threesome; fortunately his friends carried him out of the clubhouse before the Sisters' Father could deck him.....
