Any news on Mako's injury?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

I don't think it is just Eddie and England. The whole structure is wrong.
There is interesting article on the Playing Time Thread (sorry can't do linky thing) from an Kiwi newspaper saying that essentially England cannot do well in the world cup because they can never field the full team. They simply play too many minutes to ever challenge.
Their point was that we will never see the team we saw in Dublin and against France again.Depressing thought.

I do think it's Jones. The guy is an idiot.
The Ireland game was like a huge final and Mako put in probably the most physical shift of any English player. Someone with half a brain who also needs to see how their third choice LH is working out might well have used the France game to either rest or bench Mako and start Moon with Genge coming on if the game was under control.

Putting him back on for the second half clearly injured with the game already in the bag was sheer stupidity and negligence

He was down for several minutes and limped off the field at half time

Champions cup semi finals are 20/21st April. If we beat Glasgow I think we'll see him back for that. If not then there's no need to rush him

There is interesting article on the Playing Time Thread (sorry can't do linky thing) from an Kiwi newspaper
ENGLAND INJURY COUNT
Here it is for ease of access. A rather dark question came to mind as I read this and listened to EJ's comments post injury to Maro & Mako. Token concern but on each occasion "we have plenty of back up" (Maro) and "it provides an opportunity for the team to grow" (Mako)
Whilst factually correct, these are the words of a man with almost limitless resources at his disposal. I hadn't appreciated, although I watched the game, that Mako was distressed leaving the field at HT. A coach with fewer players to call upon would take greater care to ensure that his relatively limited resource was better protected.
I'm not expecting EJ to collapse in tears every time a meaningful injury occurs but I'm concerned that he takes a cavalier approach knowing that very few players are indispensable.

I think the blaming of Eddie Jones is ridiculously naive.
The simple fact is the premiership is too attritional and top players play too often. It's not as simple as blaming the clubs, as they are massively incentivised to field their first teams each week.
Personally I think the solution is to make the Prem a conference system - two lots of 6/7 team conferences. Play each team in your own conference twice and the other conference once. That's 16 or 19 games total. Then top 2 in each then play in the semis and then a final. 18 or 21 games total max.
Or even more extreme make top 4 of each conference go through to 'quarter finals'. Even though this adds a match it takes away competitiveness of the conferences and the need to play your first team each week.
Oh, and only home advantage for the quarter finals to less incentivise finishing top of the conference.
Yes, this would damage the premiership but if anyone else has a better alternative I'd love to hear it!

That's only reducing the Premiership matches by about three games - which would be the ones the international players don't take part in anyway as they fall within the AIs and 6N periods.

This. I can't recall when he went down first but commentary suggested head or shoulder...??
When we saw the bench the ankle was iced.
Players want to play and the strong guys don't want to come off. A back may have a different mind set as mobility and speed more critical
I see this as a playing injury so wouldn't look at Jones in the first instance.
Player, medical team all paint the initial picture and Coaches respond to that.
If, however, they were negligent, then they deserve the criticism but maybe in this case, that is not conclusive.

Which is why my "Two Divisions" proposal (see the Internationals Poll thread) would better address the Player Welfare issue whilst preserving clubs income from 22 league games - sadly(!) few seemed interested.
Our International players would play a maximum of 25 + ko games, perhaps:
8 Internationals
6 European games
11 (of 14) games v other Prem1 sides, worth 4/2/0 + bonus points as now
0 games v Prem2 sides, worth 2/1/0 points, no bonus, largely played during International periods (or pre Europe)
0-5 ko games.
Still too many, but a start towards genuine player welfare.
[I'd also "claw back" ko games the following season, reducing a players "allowance" by 1 (for 1/2 games) 2 (for 3/4) and 3 (for 5).]
