Tell me why.... I don’t like Fridays

Sale,Gloucester and Bath away on a Friday night= poor performances
Why is it we seem to play badly on Fridays?
“The boys have fight in them intrinsically and that comes when you lose tight games together before. But it’s also the relationships we have,it’s an amazing group to be part of.Everyone on the outside hates us but we don’t care,if you come in,you will get so much love you won’t want to leave” B.Vunipola 2017

If you look back at the last 4 league away games we’ve lost them all and only got 2 bonus points, which came in the last play of two games where we were over 10 points behind at the time.
Two of those games we had the first team out, Friday was against a similarly depleted Bath team. Glos was the only one where I thought we weren’t favourites.
I do hope the points cushion we had hasn’t lead to complacency away from home, as it is a tough habit to break.

I'd turn the question around a little - how on earth do we manage to win so many away games? We've been going through a golden period in recent seasons, where our team are winning a high proportion of these fixtures. I'd suggest that a much more normal situation for top sides is to win 80-90% of home games and to target away wins when circumstances are favourable (against bottom third sides/injured opponents/etc). We should never expect to consistently win away from AP, especially when we target Europe and have so many playing in Internationals.
Whenever many of our First XV are absent, I just hope for a home win and am happy with any points away. Of our 4 consecutive losses, Exeter is obviously a tough trip, Sale disappointing though not unexpected - they tend to target (home) games, Gloucester and Bath we lacked experience against good sides:
As the league becomes ever more competitive I think we'll see sides targeting their home games ever more, and top sides winning a lower percentage of their games. For our players, constantly being at a physical and mental peak is impossible. Perhaps their success in the last few years has led to unrealistic expectations.

I do agree with that, but we should not lose sight of the fact that the Bath team on Friday was at least as far from their first choice as ours was.

Are our fill in players not as good as once were?
As much as I like Wolstencroft his arrows are wayward as are Grays but TW will get better
The front row has been found out a bit in this 6N period & we have little go forward momentum without Billy Mako & Maro just giving it to Big Will
I really think MM should've kissed & made up with Tolofua & Vailanu & played them during this period.
Tolofua offers plenty at scrum time & Vailanu at 8 would've allowed Jackson to play flanker...it's interesting MM plays CT in europe but not in GP
European champions 2016 & 2017

It was only on Friday that our scrum suffered, against Glos we held our own pretty well in adverse conditions. Until Friday night I had been impressed with Gray's throwing, not sure he'd missed one in any of the games I'd seen.

I saw a lot of things on Friday night, but complacency wasn't one of them.

it was of course disappointing to loose yet again on a Friday night but it was in no way due to lack of effort.
And before looking for deep rooted spin factors it's worth noting that had we kicked the pens (4 missed) we would perhaps have come away with "Saries yet again pull one out of the bag"
I would suggest though that we were seriously missing some heavy impact players. in the condition of the night , we needed more real grunt that the vunapolers etc provide. this problem will be solved in a couple of weeks time when the big games start to matter.
I'm much more concerned however that we just do not have a replacement for Brad. it's not that he is the greatest player on earth or even at Saries it's just that we have no one else to do the job of big tackles and organising defenses. I for one have no confidence in Dayly solving this problem.
what we desperately need is a Island boy, preferable not on the international seen.

Samu Kerevi! After Brad Thorn's Night, sorry, Year, of the Long Knives, he's the only decent bloke left at Queensland!
Sign him for after the World Cup: Brad can enjoy a phased retirement once Australia are eliminated from the World Cup! You know it makes sense - there is probably a condo on the Gold Coast that needs some investment
