ITV Commentators

Is it just me who thought that quality was quite low?
Ugo Monye is very poor. Ben Kay has seemingly been dragged down to his level.
During the game, George Ford came on and not one mention.
Also the obsession with Cokanasiga and Tuilagi - two big blokes.
Great going forward but defensive liabilities.
Also continually comparing Cokanasiga to Lomu, I mean come on. It's a bit much.
Dallaglio did talk some sense though.
George Kruis was doing the workhorse stuff, running the lineout and got two chargedowns.
Yet all the commentators would do was talk about Robson,Manu and Cokanasiga.
Thoughts?

I disagree. I think the ITV coverage has been excellent and a breath of fresh air from the awful and tired BBC offering. Just personal taste I suppose.

I thought Ben Kay did mention George Kruis several times in the commentary, and was very complimentary about his work rate and at one point said he thought he was back to his best.
And I thought that Ugo is improving in his commentary actually, still not there yet but...I do much prefer the ITV/BT commentary teams as I cannot abide listening to Eddie Butler in particular. Our hearts always sink when we know we have him to listen to! Murdering the names of foreign players is just one bugbear!

His glorious tributes in the run up to a match are another annoyance and a third is his choice of co-commentator.

I've worked out the best BBC coverage is on Mute
ITV is much better apart from Ugo who never gives the actual opinion he is suposed to provide

The thing that annoys me with some of the expert commentators on all channels is although their knowledge of the game is far greater than mine will ever be, they still cannot hide their loyalties to their previous club and sometimes they can't hide their dislike of local rivals of their previous clubs.Listen to Dayglo, most would be able to recognise the club he used to play for and also his dislike of Sarries. The same for Monye.Ben Kay and Austin Healey, very knowledgeable but at times like watching a 're run of the Chuckle Brothers.

Indeed personal taste. I think Ugo is awful. He speaks a lot but doesn't actually saying anything constructive. I agree with J'OG.
Yes Ben Kay mentioned Kruis but difficult not to when he featured in two charge downs.
Perhaps I am being a bit harsh on Ben Kay but I feel that him and Austin have much better rapport.
London Pride that's very true. To be honest I don't mind a bit of partisanship if there's knowledge behind it. In the case of Ugo, it just comes across like sour grapes like his recent article for the guardian.
in the article before that supposedly Ntamack had a good game vs France.....
Weirdly Jonathan Davies is a much better RL commentator than RU. Maybe it's because he's more calm because Wales aren't involved.

I think the presenters and commentators on the BBC are ridiculously biased. And it’s not just Eddie Butler and Jonathon Davies. John Inverdale would watch 80 minutes of Fiji versus Samoa and his first question to the assembled panel would be: “So what does this mean for England?”
Sam Warburton and Paul O’Connell are decent additions, probably because they’re recent retirees and not from the ‘good old amateur days.’
Over on ITV there’s JBW who’s completely devoid of any personality or charisma and Sir Clive Woodward, he won a World Cup don’t you know?!! Don’t worry he’ll mention it.
Has David Flatman been used for commentary much this year? He’s always switched on but doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Flats and Ben Kay for me - then actually Will Greenwood can be quite funny and knowledgable - and I will stick my neck out and wait for you to grab the knives - although Austin can be insufferably annoying much of the time there are occasions when absolute gems of genius come out of his mouth and his explanations of different plays or different interpretations can be really really interesting and informative.
And I love listening to Brian Moore when he is having a go at the French. That was when they were worth having a go at ......

Miles Harrison is definitely a bit less offensive if Barnes is absent.
BOD is every bit as biased as some of the others mentioned (but not quite as bad as Florence Dayglo)
Ben Kay - who is on the Leicester board - was effusive about Tuilagi goal hanging out wide & distinctly grudging about Jamie George's pass (the skilful bit).
I don't see this crew as an improvement overall. Ugo & SCW have nothing to say whatsoever that is worth hearing. For every person who says "but SCW won the world cup more or less single handed" I would counter with the almost unchallenged view that he was the worst Lions coach in living memory - whatever his press adviser (Alistair Campbell!) would have you believe.

Dallaglio is dreadful, he has little insight and when he says something, you know it'll be wrong and corrected in 30 seconds time.
Most of the rest have their moments, both good and bad. I wish Flats would clown around a little less, it gets boring, like Austin's snide digs, and detracts from what they can both say that is interesting.
Thomas Castagneide seems to have little role beyond sorrowful Frenchman, but that may not be all his own doing!
For me, the best by far are Sam Warburton and Maggie Alphonsi.

Danielle Waterman is pretty knowledgeable as well - but she is nowhere in sight for Men's matches, yet.
