No Zach - after what I thought a rather good half last week: wonder what that's about?

Tough on Zac but cannot understand having both Ewels and Lawes on the bench. Either can play in the backrow at a push but would have thought it better to have one or the other and then bring more of a specialist backrower on to the bench.
I know that Ashton does not endear himself to everyone but I think he is world class winger with pace. Nowell seems to lack real gas although has many other attributes. I think its going to be a very hard day for us on Saturday and although my heart says England, my head says 99.9% AB's as winners. Time will tell.

Harsh on Mercer - he certainly didn't do much wrong when he came on, and added dynamism to a pretty staid pack.

Surprised no Tuilagi either - I thought they'd want him to punch holes.

I reckon we'll get spanked.

At least Zach will have a chance to gain a bit more international experience and confidence before getting tested by that All Black back row. He will also avoid another injury opportunity on England duty and come home to us safe and sound. Just hope he sees the positives and doesn't get despondent at EJ erratic selections. EJ probably saw one thing he didn't like and that's that for this year!

My recollection is that he was quite positive about Zach in the post-match interviews.

I suspect it's probably more about sticking to a plan against NZ (which I presume is smashing them into submission up front, and then trying to run round them..) so you need carriers who can bosh through in heavy traffic like Lawes.

Not sure that I understand your comment about '....being tested by that All Black front row'?

Sorry back row - will correct!

A real shame for Mercer. His time will come. You can't really argue with Lawes being included but I though Zac would have moved ahead of Shields and Ewels. Teo is drinking at that last chance saloon for me. Was it ring rust last time out, or is he a bit spent? He hasn't really cut many holes since the Lions tour.

"My recollection is that he was quite positive about Zach in the post-match interviews"

Ha, ha.

My recollection is that Eddie slavered over Roko and explained at length how he wanted him to win 40-50 caps. What Eddie says is idiotic. I do think he'll have England up for this challenge though.

The obvious thing would be for England to be in it at 65 minutes and for NZ to run in 20 points in the last stages. So, for me, this is where we find out whether Eddie's '20% fitter' claim holds any water.

Really tough on Zac and i'd have thought his pace is just what you need against a quick AB team.
we won't win against them by bish, bosh, bash.
Mind you, we won't win against them, period.

That's exactly how Eddie Jones is planning to beat them. Maybe not in those words though. It's the reason for Zac missing out for Lawes and for Shields inexplicably getting another start.

Interesting that hes gone for Underhill, i thought he was a little out of favour

If Brad Shields doesn't have a stormer then its time to move on IMO, same with Daly at 15.

(p.s. His name is Zach!)

It's a nothing game really. We expect to be beaten and anything that looks points reasonable will be 'acceptable'

I think he has picked a team to stay in it.
Understandable but probably not the plan when we took the fixture on. We woukd then have been expecting to match/beat then.
This is just a game to now get out the way with the least amount of damage.

Giving up 40 points will not be good which ever way you try and spin it...

NZ have the opportunity to drive wedges into the Eddie Jones regime, the RFU whisperers and the media. If I were Hansen i'd be treating this like a World Cup final. They can practically eliminate England as contenders on Saturday by putting 35 points on us. I think the first 15 minutes are going to be absolutely breathless.

Te'o has barely played any rugby this season so it's no surprise he's a little rusty. I think he's picked to be directly opposite SBW.

Having said England don't have any 7s, just 6.5s, Eddie's obsession with 5.5s is curious. I guess if there's an injury at 7 or 8 then the extremely unimpressive Shields gets a shot at 8.

A bit dramatic. Hartley has more caps than the rest of the pack combined. It's a hugely understrength England team and NZ know that. The result won't make much of a difference in the long run.

'It's a hugely understrength England team'

It is what it is. It's the best team he can pick here and now. Who's to say that will be any different next October?

NZ frequently come to Europe in the autumn with massively understrength teams and smash everyone.

I'm not sure Eddie would support your excuses excuses culture.

I wonder what part the ref will play, especially with this red card stuff going on at the moment. We might be able to stay with them for a while with 15 v 15, we might be able to do better with 15 v 14 in our favour, but if Farrell or Itoje make it 14 v 15 in their favour, then it is going to be a long day.

What excuses excuses culture? All I said was one loss to the best team in the world with an understrength team wouldn’t singlehandedly destroy the RFU, English rugby and half the universe like you seemed to suggest.
