World Cup Officials

According to TRP as below. The worldrugby.org website doesn’t show any differentiation between referees and assistants, not sure where TRP gets the split from.

REFEREES
England.....
Wayne Barnes
Luke Pierce

Wales.......
Nigel Owens

France.......
Jerome Garces
Romain Poite
Pascal Gauzere
Matieu Raynal

South Africa.......
Jaco Peyper

Australia.......
Nic Berry
Angus Gardner

New Zealand......
Ben O’Keefe
Paul Williams

ASSISTANT REFEREES
England......
Mathew Carley (reserve referee)
Karl Dickson

Ireland.......
Andrew Brace

France.......
Alex Ruiz

New Zealand......
Brendon Pickerill

Argentina.......
Federico Anselmi

Japan.........
Shuhei Kubo

TMOs
England.......
Graham Hughes
Rowan Kitt

South Africa......
Marius Jonker

New Zealand.......
Ben Skeen

Presumably referees will act as assistants, but assistants can’t act up, other than Carley.

Comments......What? No JP? (If he’s asked to be excused for personal reasons I apologise in advance.....otherwise I’m just not surprised)

I’ll be looking forward to Nigel not getting the final....because Wales will be in it.

I thought Barnes was retiring, or is it after the World Cup?

Ummm the report that Wayne was retiring may have been premature.

Over a coffee in Twickenham this week, barely 24 hours after flying back from Auckland, the 39-year‑old Barnes reveals several factors have prompted his decision. Next year, selection permitting, will be his fourth Rugby World Cup; he has a growing young family and his wife, Polly, has just had a work promotion. He also wants to give more time to his “other” job, as a barrister specialising in bribery and corruption at a London chambers, a far cry from his teenage holiday job crushing berries in a Ribena factory – “It was a plum job!” – in his native Forest of Dean. After 200 Premiership games and 81 Test matches, the temptation to bow out at the top is understandable.

"specialising in bribery and corruption"

Ideal for a job with Premier Rugby's salary cap monitoring team then!

(Not that they would ever appoint anyone who might force them to do anything obviously).

Yes, I wondered about that one too. He has 169 appearances for Quins, so probably has his beak right up some bums at HQ.

On the other hand, he will get plenty of opportunities to watch how top refs do the job, up close and personal like. Who knows, he might even pick up some of it?!

Whatever you do, do it safely!
