Great news coming out of Penryn RFC that they are going to benefit from the partnership between the Pirates and Waikato Rugby Union/Chiefs Super rugby.
There will be a player exchange and it will also be extended to include other clubs in the county. There will also be educational opportunities between Truro and Penwith College and Waikato University.
This is fantastic news and hopefully this is only the start of a scheme that will go from strength to strength as it develops over the next few years.
Penryn announce exciting partnership!
It was great to welcome Dave "Foxy" Fox and his wife Mrs Foxy to the Borough last night. Foxy came in to see the boys training and meet the committee of the club and was very impressed with what's happening and the future plans for the club. As seen in the video, Foxy and his wife chose a player each that impressed them during the session and they picked Joe Tanswell the colts scrum half and new signing Danny Richards and both were presented a Waikato hat. Foxy then went on to explain to the lads, about the partnership we have set up via the work of Colin Groves, which will see us benefit from having young Kiwi talent coming across the waters to represent, the Borough and other Cornish Clubs, hoping to take the next step to the Pirates. The partnership also offers the chance for our young players to go out the Waikato Premier rugby clubs to experience life over there. This really is a unique groundbreaking partnership between the Cornish Pirates, Waikato Rugby and the Chiefs Super Rugby Franchise. Also the links with Truro & Penwith College, together with Waikato University & Wintec in New Zealand. It's fantastic for the youngsters from both sides of the globe.
This is a really exciting period of time for the Borough and we would like to thank Colin and Foxy for the time they have given us and the opportunity to work together. We will be getting our first player across this season, just before Christmas and we look forward to revealing him before then. Overall, this is a great opportunity for us as a club and we are thrilled to have this partnership with such a great name as Waikato rugby and the history and heritage that comes with that club.
