What's happened to our Defence? Have we been found out, allowing other teams to get through? It certainly doesn't seem as solid as earlier in the season...

Average score before Christmas Coventry 42: 14 Opposition (636:208 over 15 matches)
Average score since Christmas Coventry 42: 19 Opposition (252:115 over 6 matches)

So overall, it has got worse.

But... Ignoring the Blackheath defeat
Average score since Christmas Coventry 45: 11 Opposition (223:54 over 5 matches)

(Running total season to date Coventry 42: 15 Opposition (888:323 over 21 matches)

OK - the post-Christmas matches are over a smaller sample (5/6 matches rather than 15) but the scores would suggest our defence has not got significantly worse - except on one bad day.

I seem to remember Rowland Winter telling us when he arrived to expect attacking rugby from Cov, and a by-product of that is that points would be lost in the process. I'm not sure whether RW might have expected to have lost more points than we have so far this season. What is more interesting to me are the margins of victory since the start of the season:-

43, 39, 2, 27, 35, 3, 64, 36, 33, 24, 4, 15, 30, 49, 24, 47, -32(blip), 45, 26, 44, 7.

So - 1 defeat, and only 4 games where the opposition were within a score at the final whistle. Doesn't seem to bad to me.

A reminder that only 4 times this season have we conceeded more than 20 points. At this stage last year it had happened 13 times.

I wasn't at Blackheath (thankfully) but on Saturday there was a lot of occasions where we were slipping off the first tackle and I haven't seen that this season. We need to step our game up over the next 5-6 games.
