Ladbrokes Challenge Cup

Last night the luck of the Challenge Cup draw paired West Wales Raiders away at former World Club Champions,Bradford Bulls.

The head coach of Bradford Bulls is,of course, the head coach of Wales national side,John Kear,a man renowned for the success of the underdog in the Challenge Cup when he coached Hull FC to a victory over Leeds in the final, and 20 years ago, this year,to unfancied Sheffield Eagles to a victory in the final against all-conquering Wigan Warriors.

( I have a brand new, unopened dvd of the Sheffield Eagles victory in 1998 should anyone wish to have it )

The game is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 24th and 25th of this month - dress up warm! - and before that 2 of the better Bradford players,Minchella and Ethan Ryan are to appear before the disciplinary and may miss the game.

No pressure on our players and a perfect time to remind John Kear how good they are before future international games.

It hasn't helped us at all that the newfangled disciplinary system seems to allow

repeated punching after running across the field and leaping to the top of the melee to
land several punches.

Elliot Minichella (Bradford) - Grade A Punching - No Further Action (Non-relevant record, including no record showing two or more offences in the last 24 months, including at least one in the last 12 months)
Ethan Ryan (Bradford) - Grade A Other Contrary Behaviour - No Further Action (Non-relevant record, including no record showing two or more offences in the last 24 months, including at least one in the last 12 months)

It really is going to be a baptism of fire for our young players.

The club must not make the same mistakes again. The team need to get off to a reasonable start. Fans have had year after year of excuses and poor results.

A baptism of fire it maybe but WWR must register some wins in the early weeks.

The Bulls will be tough but other teams are there for the taking....

Good luck lads

Unfortunately the Commonwealth Championship has deprived us of some players, and we

sustained injuries in the pre-season game at London.

Winning the home games in League 1 would be nice.

Newcastle Thunder have an injury or two and Hull FC have some injuries so their assistance,

under Dual/Reg with Doncaster, may not be what the Dons were expecting.

Crowd support for the WWR players is vital.

That is a brilliant spot! I have just asked on the Bradford Forum because I know they put the price up on game day for the League games.

They had ridiculous prices a year or two ago.

Cheers,Rogero.I am certain they have only recently added that as I checked a few times

after the draw was made.

Looks like Bradford are taking West Wales Raiders seriously.

They have paid 'compensation ' to Hunslet for the captain Flanagan,a hooker, who played well

last year, against South Wales Scorpions,at the John Charles/South Leeds stadium.

Good ruck defence required.

They will also play Dane Chisholm from the bench.Concentration will be required as he

likes his short kicks to surprise the opposition on restarts and GLDO's.

John Kear reckons the average age of the side which won the opening League 1 game,at

York, with the last kick of the game, was 22 yrs of age.

Flanagan and Chisholm take that average up a tad.

With the big game nearly upon us it seems Bradford are quite satisfied.

Interesting that John Kear had signed a contract at Wakefield, shortly before he became

head coach at The Bulls.

Chisholm had signed a contract at Sheffield, before he went to Bradford - and Flanagan had

signed a contract at Hunslet, before the signed him.

Press Report

I am not a great fan of Flanagan. He has had more than one issue away from the field of

play - and sadly,I was present when this horrendous piece of simulation ( euphemism )

was performed - I was opposite to where the camera was positioned and it was worse than

any prima donna in the world of soccer could manage - though he did apologise!

Watch It And Weep!

Good experience for our players, though. They will be up against another bunch of

' experienced professionals ' in future games, particularly at Workington.

Bit of bad news for those not travelling to Bradford.

I did think Proper Sports were going to cover it live - but they ain't!
