A much-underestimated player by those outside the club. When you analyse a game he doesn't half get through some work. Nice lad, too.

An excellent player about the park but his work at scrum time let him down and really needs to improve in that aspect, perhaps the fact that he is/was primarily a loose head and was being played at tight head had something to do with it.

I think he has done remarkable really considering he was in his first season and played a hell of a lot of games at tight head.

That seasons experience will be huge for him going in to this season where hopefully he can be in his main position of Loose head.

This follows on from the debate going on in the other thread about our front row / props. You cant have 6 frontline top earning props.

We have Welsh, Mulipola and Lockwood and hopefully Davison joining them as reliable good level prem props.

This also reminds us that our props have to be fast athletes, not just lumbering beasts who shine in the scrum for perhaps 2% of the game & are then not much use to the rest of the team.

George Graham was light years ahead of the game in this aspect.

Agree Pity.

A props primary role is scrum despite some opinions on here. If the lad can improve (by a lot let's be honest) in the set piece, he has some other great skills that will stand him in good stead. He certainly has an engine and some nice hands, seem to recall a few cheeky offloads.

mood hoovering arrives into a positive thread about a young man making his way into a tough game

I wouldn't call 26 (almost) particularly young in rugby terms and its hardly "mood hoovering" to suggest he needs to improve his scrummaging, he is a prop after all.

Good luck to the lad, his is quite a story from delivery guy to Prem rugby pro.

Not convinced by him yet if I am honest, but he is developing still and could turn out to be a quality prop. smiling smiley

Knew the scrum Police would arrive... (Sm151)

I'd say 25 is pretty young for a prop, especially one very new to the pro game.
