when DW was a Falcons' flyhalf, I remember he was known as 'peanut',not ;walnut', on account of his haircut.

What happened to the pre season players meet up and talk for season ticket holders? Weve really enjoyed that over the past few years - a great opportunity for the kids to meet the players and get autographs.

The schedules have been stupidly busy, even the early season fans forum is looking iffy, just the way it is. We are lucky to nail down Deano & Dave for this one, but hopefully we will have the usual meet the new players evening soon as this is always popular.

Well it was a very in-depth presentation based on match & player stats, how these influence the core structure of our game (which has to remain pretty constant as it does for all teams) and also tweaks to our strategies, player selections etc to adapt to different oppositions and playing conditions. It would be impossible to summarise any of it so apologies to those who were unable to attend, but in a nut shell these guys & all the other cogs in the machine from analysts to the S&C team really know what they are doing to a level that pretty much none of us could possibly understand.

If one comment was key to understanding our successes & our failures it was from Walder; When we keep our shape in attack and exploit the opportunities that it creates we go forward and we win games. When we just stick to our systems & shapes we go backwards. It takes years to develop these systems so that players know instinctively how to move & retain the ball laterally, creating holes in the opposition line as they do so, but if the players don't see & exploit those holes when they appear, all the hard work in the world isn't going to win games. Players are encouraged to see opportunities, to trust themselves to make breaks, to back themselves to be better than the opposition, and when that works we win.

A great evening was had by all. Sessions like this really do help our understanding of what goes on during games, and not just for Falcons, it helps to understand what the opposition are doing too, and the little things that make the likes of Exeter & Sarries consistently perform well.
