A bit of fun, and always causes a bit of light hearted dispute between the fans...

Whats your best or favorite (they can be different) Newcastle side ever? You can include the Gosforth sides etc.

Some positions pick themsevles...but others are debateable...

1 Nick Popplewell
2 Ross Nesdale
3 Carl Hayman
4 Doddie Weir
5 Gareth Archer
6 Mark Wilson
7 Pat Lam
8 (Aly Hogg / Dean Ryan) - Tough one

9 Gary Armstrong
10 Johnny Wilkinson
11 Vereniki Goneva
12 (John Leslie / Mark Mayerhofler) - Unsure
13 Alan Tait
14 Inga Tuigamala
15 Matt Burke

The era's and professional standards were of course vastly different but this Gosforth team was pretty special:

15 Brian Patrick
14 Dave Carr
13 Alan McMillan
12 Harry Patrick

10 Richard Breakey
9 Malcolm Young

1 Colin White
2 Duncan Madsen
3 Andy Cutter

4 John Hedley
5 Terry Roberts

6 Peter Dixon
7 Dave Robinson
8 Roger Uttley

Rob Andrew at 10 is the first name on me team sheet. His tactical play was matchless and he could also run a bit. And nobody could match him for guts. He taught Jonny W almost everything he knew, but I don't thjnk he ever matched his mentor.

Peter Walton was a force of nature the season we won the title at 6 or 8.

As far as I remember 6 Lam 7 Arnie 8 Ryan was the first choice back-row in the premiership winning season with Walton coming off the bench.

Think Jamie Noon must be in with a shout, one of my favourite ex-Falcons. Arnie must be close, not necessarily for his talent, but because the tannoy humorously would play Anarchy in the UK when he transgressed. Fun times.

Yes i actually forgot all about Jamie Noon.

Then theres players like Marius Hurter..who was a cracking prop. George Graham.

We could do with some of those Tight heads now..ha ha

Not sure if this is the 'best' individuals ever to play for the club but mine would be:

1 Rob Vickers (time served in a difficult position and not an easy transition from hooker)
2 Ross Nesdale (would have had so many more caps had he been eligible for any other nation than Ireland and NZ)
3 Paul van Zandvliet (simply because i always thought he was the most under-rated member of the championship team, otherwise Carl Hayman)
4 Doddie Weir (legend)
5 Calum Green (most improved signing? sad to see him go)
6 Mark Wilson (enough said)
7 Pat Lam (inspiration first time round)
8 Ally Hogg (never had a bad game)

9 Gary Armstrong (those sniping runs)
10 Johnny Wilkinson (points machine)
11 Inga Tuigamala (brought so many people through the turnstiles)
12 Alan Tait (had to put him in somewhere)
13 Jamie Noon (another stalwart so good in defence)
14 Tom May (most appearances and try scorer so had to be in)
15 Matt Burke (biggest ever signing?)

Others considered but could not quite fit in:
Marius Hurter, Phil Dowson, John Bentley, Andy Perry (hard as nails), Tony Underwood, Mark Mayerhofler, Jimmy Gopperth, Stuart Grimes, Peter Walton, Nili Latu.

That was so much more difficult that i thought it would be (Sm15)

Also vaguely remember Steve Bainbridge from the Gosforth days, got into the England side too. Hard to compare different eras however.

Where are Banty Johnson and Ross Wilkinson? Nice to see my old pal Duncan "Drunken " Madsen "Madman" featured.

Ray McLoughlin as captain would be the first name on my team sheet.
