The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Season Review

Blackadder: execute plan
By P G Tips
May 9 2017

So, Saturday’s fairy tale happy ending did not materialise. Tigers wrapped up a Playoff place at Sixways, while Bath failed to win at Sale, letting slip the slim chance to make the Top 4. What then, to make of Todd Blackadder’s first season? Beginning with hope, joy and expectation, it soon developed as many plot twists and improbable characters as a spaghetti western. For me, it was a case of “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”.

The Good

The Bad

The Ugly

The hope for next season? An injury free pre season and quick start; swift integration of Freddie Burns; continued development of the club’s young talent and better execution of the Blackadder “cunning plan” in attack.

Great summary PG Tips! Hard to disagree with that.

Can't disagree with the previous comments.
It's been a season that is hard to put into words but this does it.

Team Blackadder have had a testing baptism to the Premiership but they should be all the richer for that next time around.

Really good analysis of our curates egg of a season, and I agree with most of your observations.

It is all down to the guys on the pitch, not the coaches who give them the bullets to fire, the players have to fire the guns. If the players have as we are often told, 'learned from the experiences and the defeats', we should see much improvement next time around. However, after recent events, I remain to be convinced they have it in them , both physically and more importantly, mentally. Lets hope they can rise above the mediocrity, but I doubt it.

IMO one huge improvement would be the appointment of a top player as ONE on field club captain, one who is both respected, feared and leads by example. In many ways, I would like it to be Kahn but Atters would be a very good second choice.

I agree with the final sentiment BoB - but am not entirely sure about Khan.

No slight on him as a player, but 9s lead on the pitch anyway. For every successful SH leader (& there have been many) there is one who find Captaincy, as opposed to game management, a burden.

Agree about Attwood. Garvey would be a fine deputy. It is no coincidence IMHO that the absence of the two saw our performances decline.

We often hope that players and coaches don't read this forum but I would be happy for them to read this review.

To be fair, if there is anything in the review that the coaches didn't know then I would be worried!

Fair assessment PG. Only things that I would flag are that, in relation to the start of the season we had an 'easy' start in comparative terms so being second was just as much of a reflection on that. Wasn't the Exeter loss partly down to a loss of front row - Stade was just down to bad judgement and tackling at the death...

Yes reading that was cathartic as it hit the nail on the head.

I physically have my new season tickets already so I'm all set for 2017/18.........oh b******* I've now got to wait nearly four months!
