Another Close One

You can almost always guarantee thrills, spills and tension when the Blues play these days. It was no exception when Doncaster rolled into town and as the 29-28 scoreline suggests either side could have won.

Fortunately it was the Blues who took the five points and no doubt impressing the Ladies Day guests with their skill and athleticism. There are those of us , however, who would like the occasional game dead and buried by half time.

This could have been it as we were 17-0 up at the break but Phoneix are a powerful side and stormed back.

We were hanging on desperately in what seemed like an inordinate amount of injury time -some said it was a full 12 minutes.

Sorry to say I feel the blues cane out for the second half and rested on their laurels and then had to soak it up! Our defence was very strong and we more then matched them up front. But why oh why did we not feed our backs more, every game time after time when we attack from the wings we have sides really really scared!

I do agree this season we are not as expansive as in previous seasons. I do like watching a bit of grunt in the forwards, but please not too much as we do lose the excitement.

In my humble opinion the turning points of the game were when Dickson had to be substituted and the next was with the substitutions at the 60 minute point, up to the we had it seemed control of the lineout, we then lost three of our next four lineouts

The referee like many who graces us their presence ignored the offside rule, Doncaster seemed to ‘play’ the referee better than us, and I noted that they also did not contest the line on a couple of occasions which also caused us problems

It was a five point game for us so let’s be thankful, however its the points we conceded towards the end of a game that are worrying...,,,,,,

We haven't been as expansive as look at our make shift set of backs every game and then during the game. Some of those players are still playing with each other for the first time.

Not a bad thing though - will give everybody a run out?
