On Saturday 14 June, it was announced that the Coventry Telegraph had 2 weeks to raise a bond of £100,000 to lodge with the RFU to allow Coventry Rugby Football Club to continue playing in National One.
Support for the Club, established in 1874, has been overwhelming with messages of support and donations being received from Coventry supporters, the wider rugby community and the general public.
In just 2 weeks, our appeal to find the bond of has revealed a deep source of pride and support in our local team and community.
We appeal to the RFU to allow Coventry to continue in National One in the upcoming season to ensure its survival so it can exist for future generations to aspire to and maintain its long and proud history.
As I said yesterday about emailing everyone in your contacts list asking them to take 2 minutes out to sign the petition....its worked for me as there are several names from my contacts on the list, none of them are rugby fans as such but most are from coventry and must see it as a worthy cause so its worth a try?!
I did mention on the Glawster fans forum that any influence financialy or with the RFU would be welcome. I also gave refereence to the Cov Building Society
Magwitch is so right.
Whatever the reasons are for the larger amounts we had hoped for not coming though, I just hope at the end of it all those people still believe it was a right decision not to support.
There is still time, but cards on the table, neither Wilko, I or anyone else for that matter can with any certainty predict what the RFU reaction will be come Wednesday when they are approached with the Bond figure.
And as Magwitch are correctly pointed out, it is the Bond that will really be taken note of. Is there someone out there please to ease the worries of so many !!??
If there is any heart or sense of tradition in the RFU then they MUST give us more time. The total so far is a indication that we CAN get to that targeted figure in time and a short time at that.
An initial surge of £43 odd k , is fantastic. We should all be proud of this achievement. Especially in the current ecconomic climate and taking into account the average home attendance.
Just to let you know. I posted the "Glawster" Fans Forum yesterday and we had 280 hits and several messages of support. Many remember Cov playing at Kingsholm.
I know this is not money but It is an indacation of the feeling out there in the rugby fraternity.
