Tom Harris ready for Coventry return

COVENTRY aim to ease last year’s leading try-scorer Tom Harris back to first team action at home to Wharfedale this weekend.

The prolific winger scored 18 tries last season but has not played this season because of a long-term toe injury.

However, he is well along the way towards recovery and rugby director revealed he is tempted to throw him in at the deep end on Saturday.

That will probably mean coming off the bench and into a Coventry side still smarting from Saturday’s 29-3 reverse at Jersey, the first time they have been held tryless since January, a run of 30 games.

Dual-registered back rower Jethro Rawlings is also likely to feature against the lowly Yorkshire outfit after coming on as a second half replacement against the islanders.

Maynard says he expects the 20-year-old from Leicester Tigers to spend most of the season at Butts Park and build on his promising debut.

However, the coach rates Elliott Read’s likely availability as ‘only 50-50’ after the youngster missed out on the trip to Jersey with a groin problem. Luke Myring deputised but Cov missed having two game-managers in their midfield.

And flanker Alex Nash is four-to-six weeks away from a return after an operation on his knee. Club captain Jamie Miller is due to return to light training on December 23.

Meanwhile Earlsdon RFC, have successfully appealed against a ten-point deduction for breach of player registration regulations. They have instead been fined £750, payable by May 1, 2012.
