AS IT did the previous weekend, the cold weather put any ideas of playing on ice and although we didn’t get on the pitch we did see plenty of action around the club.
It was announced that Peter Rossborough has stepped down as chairman but fortunately will remain on the board at the club.
Although I haven’t been around the club for that long it is clear to me that as well as being a fantastic guy, the Coventry legend was an integral part of the clubs resurgence through the tough times.
Peter is very highly thought of among the squad and I’m sure all the boys would join me in thanking him for what he done during his time as chairman.
Although it’s sad to see Peter step down I think the reshuffle highlights the clubs plans and ambitions to move forward. Stepping into his shoes is Jon Sharp who I think will link the business side of the club to the playing side very nicely and with Phil Maynard taking on the running of the club I think we have exciting times ahead.
As the club is putting into place plans for the future, this time of the year is always one where as a player you have to begin putting some thought into the season ahead because normally around now the building for the next season is underway within all clubs.
In the past at the clubs I have been at I have noticed that by now guys are meeting with their agents or sneaking off to make phone calls in-between sessions. It’s an anxious time, not for all as some guys by now are signed up but most are nervously waiting.
Like at all clubs I am sure when the end of the season reaches us that some of our boys will choose to move on and because of the nature of the modern game, some guys will be pushed to move on.
I hope that we can keep the majority of our current squad and look to strengthen to match the ambition and the drive within the club as I am sure the plans are being put in place for a big future here at CRFC.
