Maynard offers no excuses for Cov's defeat at Macclesfield..

By John Wilkinson, Coventry Telegraph

RUGBY director Phil Maynard conceded that Coventry were outplayed in every department as they slumped to a 40-10 defeat at Macclesfield in their first National League One game for three weeks.

Cov conceded a try after just 29 seconds and – 28-0 down at the break after facing a strong wind – never looked like finding a way back into contention.

“It was a bitterly disappointing performance in several ways, no question, and Macclesfield gave us a lesson,” said Maynard.

“We knew we had to keep the ball in hand in the first half against the wind and then after working hard to get into any sort of field position, we continually gave the ball away cheaply. It gave us a mountain to climb.

“The game was summed up for me when the first time we got some attacking ball in the first half we kicked it away and simply fed their counter-attack, which was exactly what we had said we wouldn’t do.

“In the second half I counted Macclesfield carrying the ball through 22 phases and making 20 yards without giving the ball away – we couldn’t do that and it was very disappointing to see a Coventry pack being completely out-rucked the way we were today.”

Well mr DoR, if you cant who can ???

Absolutely dire, do these guys want to play for you and/or the shirt ?

Because I am beginning to doubt your motivational skills, having said that, we are suffering some key injuries.

Strangely, no-one else is....

Time for people to pull together, rather than being derisive.

I believe we have been a very patient group of supporters, but I do think the question of motivation and leadership needs to be examined by the Club Board. On the face of it the player potential, particularly recent signings should place us in a better position than at present.

As to Maynard's motivational skills, man-management etc., wouldn't it better to discuss it directly with those that are directly affected by it and know the real truth.... the players?
Bandying words on such a matter on here is just pointless and potentially demoralising guff.

To be fair i don't think you can blame the performances on The D.o.R
The players are all experienced to a level they should be able to play at a decent standard of rugby.
I think in all fairness the D.o.R has done a good job of bringing homegrown talent into the squad and bringing the more experienced players into the squad.
The injuries we have had the last few months would have put any team up against it.
I think we should stick by the coaches , staff and players.
It is totaly acceptable though that people do have a moan if we lose, as there are no supporters in the country who enjoy watching their team get beat.
COME ON COV!!!!!!!!!!
