More injury misery for Coventry.

COVENTRY’S injury jinx struck again in bizarre fashion when fly-half Elliott Read broke his ankle before Saturday’s National League One game at Blaydon.

Read, who had been named on the bench, turned his ankle in a freak accident as the team were preparing to set off from the Butts Park Arena and could now miss the rest of the season.

Cov, whose starting line-up showed seven changes and one positional switch from the previous week, went on to draw the game 17-17, securing their first points on the road in seven games with a much improved performance.

“The lads rolled their sleeves up and put in a shift today,” said rugby director Phil Maynard. “Given the wind and our situation it was never going to be pretty but the commitment was there and I was pleased with the way everybody responded.

“The two points could have been four, we had them going at the end, but every point is valuable in this league.
