COVENTRY’S injury woes continued with an immediate return to the sidelines for flanker Alex Nash in Saturday’s hard-earned 19-19 draw at Rosslyn Park.
Out through injury since the end of November, Nash was called up when Jamie Harrop failed a fitness test but saw his comeback cut short by a shoulder injury after only 33 minutes at Priory Lane.
It led to a debut for replacement hooker Tom Cowell who, himself recently returned from a lengthy lay-off, played the rest of the game in the back row and stood out as Cov battled back from 12-0 and 19-5 down to secure their second National League One draw in as many weeks.
“Tom stepped up and did very well,” said rugby director Phil Maynard. “His play in the loose was outstanding.
“It was a big blow losing Alex again and we will have to wait to see how bad the injury is but we couldn’t have asked for more from Tom.
“It was another game where we had to roll our sleeves up and work very hard, and it’s another two good points away from home at a difficult place to play.
“In the first half we tried to play too much rugby and kicked too much possession away but I thought it was a great second-half performance and in the end we could have snatched it.
