Back rower Brett Daynes sets his sights on perfect season.

COVENTRY’S Mr Consistent Brett Daynes has set his sights on a perfect season.

The South African-born back rower has played in every match so far this term and with seven games remaining is aiming to make it 30 out of 30.

That would eclipse last term, his first at the club, when he played 29 matches and missed only the game away at Cambridge.

So far he has started all 23 of Cov’s games this term, mainly at blindside but also at openside and No.8 and he is hopeful of the run continuing at home to Fylde on Saturday.

“It has crossed my mind,” the former Bedford player admitted. “If Phil Maynard was to come to me and say he needs to rest me so that I can come back fresher I would understand that but I would be really proud to play in all 30.

“I got my 50th game against Macclesfield a few weeks ago, which was good in a season-and-a-half and I’d like to keep that going.

“It’s completely different to how it was at Bedford where I did my time on the bench and only played about 25 games in three seasons.

“To play 29 last season and every one this is a massive turnaround and I’d love to finish it off.” However, Daynes knows the fixtures are not getting any easier and in Brian Ashton-inspired Fylde, Cov face one of the most dangerous sides in National One.

I'm not superstitious, but that sounds horribly like tempting fate. Best if luck to Brett towards completing the full set.

Brett is rapidly becoming a favourite with Cov supporters, and for several very good reasons. He's an ever-present, he's sharp, consistent, industrious, he makes the hard yards, he's a good ball carrier, he gets over the gain line, he demonstrates an excellent example so that the team follows, he has a will to win and a never say die attitude.
I've watched him this season and I rate him very highly, not only for all the above reasons and more, but because he just gets on with it. In my estimation, he's an unsung hero.
Very good luck for the rest of the season, Brett. And I hope you have a really good game tomorrow.

Well said Cliff. I rate Brett very highly, and it’s for the same reason as you. He just gets on with it, puts in a good shift, and is very reliable. A top man and a top player.
