IRB 2009 Sevens Tournament - USA 14th & 15th February 2009 England 7s fixtures and results as the come in.

England will be raring to go again this weekend after being crowned Wellington Champions last weekend in New Zealand.
England 7s Captain Ollie Philips said "It doesn't get much better than this. Beating New Zealand at home is a massive achievement. We worked hard all week and it's great to see it come to fruition. We will celebrate tonight and then our focus will be on winning the San Diego tournament next week."

Some of us are at work on a fine sunny morning
England Women have won the title, beating USA in the final.
Men's final not happened yet, could be a repeat of the Womens, but USA must overcome Argentina in the semi first.
Final kicks off in about an hour.
Unhappiness, where's when I was young
And we didn't give a damn
'Cause we were raised
To see life as a fun and take it if we can
Some of us are at work on a fine sunny morning

England are top of the IRB Sevens rankings despite losing out to Argentina 19-14 in the USA Sevens.
As a result of winning the Wellington Sevens last weekend and reaching the Cup final in San Diego this weekend, England are joint-top with South Africa on 60 points, eight clear of New Zealand on 52.
And with 17 days to go until the Rugby World Sevens 2009 England's rise is perfect timing.
In the Cup final Tom Biggs (Leeds Carnegie) and Ben Gollings (Gold Coast, Australia), who celebrated his 50th IRB sevens tournament, both scored first half tries for England either side of one by Argentina captain Santiago Gomez Cora.
Trailing 14-5 at the break, the Pumas quickly asserted pressure on the Englishmen after the restart and scored tries through Martin Rodrigues and Lucas Amorosino, before their famous defence kicked in to hold England at bay for five minutes.
England overcame South Africa 22-19 in their semi final, with Gio Aplon and Mpho Mbiyozo crossing for a 12-0 lead before tries by Gollings and Ollie Philips (Newcastle Falcons) brought England back on terms. Biggs scored after the break and Philips notched a second, before Paul Delport's late try brought the Boks back to within three points. England held on, though, to reach a second successive final.
Gollings said, "Unfortunately it wasn't our night tonight. The boys put everything into it but we couldn't come up with the goods, we made a few mistakes and were punished by Argentina.
"We can look over the past two weeks and say that we've made two finals and won one. We're pretty happy right now to be at the top of the rankings. We have got to take the positives with us for our preparation for the Rugby World Cup Sevens. Fingers crossed we can go one better there.
"This is a special tournament for me being my 50th and I would have loved to be receiving the Cup but it's not to be, maybe next time!"

Good stuff. After beating Fiji than SA I was hoping we'd win but runners up & rising in the rankings is nice to see.
England seem stronger @ 7's now, hopefully keep it up.
Well done to Argentina, Kenya & USA as well.
