Keen to keep up a Gloucester presence on Rugbynetwork so here goes with our first game of the new Premiership season and thank goodness its at home ...

Friday nights are tremendous at Kingsholm and with all the beer promotions and floodlights it should be a great start with the Chiefs formidable opposition.

Exeter had a superb season last time and it remains to be seen whether it was a flash in the pan or whether they have built a team which can sustain them for the next few years. We will get an insight this week.

So that's the opposition dealt with sportingly. We are more bothered about how we can recover our glory days and with new coach (Ackermann) the farewell of some big names (May) and some experienced stawarts (Laidlaw) departing.

Surprisingly, perhaps, there will only be two debut boys in the side to take on Chiefs in Fraser Balmain and Jason Woodward although there are as few  more on the bench - Gareth Denman, Ed Slater and Ruan Ackermann.

Here's Johan Ackermann's first selection: 15. Jason Woodward; 14. Ollie Thorley, 13. Andy Symons, 12. Mark Atkinson, 11. Henry Purdy; 10. Billy Burns, 9. Willi Heinz (captain); 1. John Afoa, 2. Richard Hibbard, 3. Fraser Balmain; 4. Tom Savage, 5. Jeremy Thrush; 6. Lewis Ludlow, 7. Jacob Rowan, 8. Ben Morgan

Bench Motu Matu’u, Josh Hohneck,  Gareth Denman,  Ed Slater,  Ruan Ackermann,  Ben Vellacott, Billy Twelvetrees,  Matt Scott

Will Chiefs do a Leicester City? Probably not given the quality in their squad with Matt Kvesic only managing a place on the bench on his return to Kingsholm. They've one new starter in Aussie scrum-half Nic White. This game will be a cracker with Glaws to shade it by five points .

Chiefs: 15 Phil Dollman; 14 Olly Woodburn, 13 Henry Slade,12 Ian Whitten,11 Max Bodilly; 10 Gareth Steenson, 9 Nic White; 1 Ben Moon, 2 Jack Yeandle (captain),3 Harry Williams; 4 Ollie Atkins, 5 Jonny Hill; 6 Dave Dennis, 7 Don Armand, 8 Sam Simmonds.

Bench: Elvis Taione,  Carl Rimmer, Tomas Francis, Sam Skinner, Matt Kvesic, Jack Maunder, Jack Nowell, Lachie Turner.
