NEWS: Teams Up: Aviva Premiership Saints v Worcester

250 caps - true Saintsman

Northampton Saints legend Ben Foden will lead out the side on his 250th and final appearance for the Club on Saturday afternoon. The 32-year-old is one of a host of Saints stalwarts that will be pulling on the Black, Green and Gold jersey for the final time as Northampton host Worcester Warriors at Franklin’s Gardens. Final league positions will be on the line so Saints – who have beaten Warriors on three of the previous four meetings between the sides – have plenty of pride at stake in front of what will be a bumper Gardens crowd.

Interim head coach Alan Dickens and technical coaching consultant Alan Gaffney have made four changes from the side that ran Aviva Premiership semi-finalists Wasps so close last time out.

Foden skippers the team at fullback after shifting from the wing, with Tom Collins brought into the Saints’ starting XV for the first time since January to make his 50th appearance for the Club. George North remains on the other wing, but there are two further changes to Northampton’s back line as Nafi Tuitavake and James Grayson both start at outside centre and fly-half respectively. But in the pack there is only one change; Kieran Brookes makes his final appearance for the Club at tighthead prop, packing down with Alex Waller and Mikey Haywood in the front row. Stephen Myler, Campese Ma’afu and Charlie Clare will all also run out at Franklin’s Gardens for the final time in a Saints jersey, and will look to make an impact off the bench alongside the likes of Ahsee Tuala, Alex Mitchell, and David Ribbans – who returns from injury to join the replacements.

“I’ve seen these players as both a teammate and a coach and they’ve served Saints brilliantly in what is probably the most successful period in the history of the Club,” said Dickens. “The motivation to send the guys out on a high note has to come from within the players and we’ve spoken about that this week – hopefully we put on a performance to match the occasion.”

I'm looking forward to this game. There have been enough signs in recent weeks of improvement from the team. It's a shame we had to play so many top 6 sides.

It has been a terrible season. But tomorrow we need to put that aside and focus on giving the best possible farewell to some exceptional club servants, in particular Myler, Foden and Day.

I hope we can harness the momentum from the Wanderers win on Monday and our recent good performances and continue it tomorrow. And I hope we create in the stands a memorable atmosphere for all the leavers.

COYS!!!

An attacking backline. Though defensively we will get tested

Pleased for Grayson, Collins, Mitchell and Ludlam - they deserve their involvement.

Great back line can’t wait to see them play some rugby. I don’t care if defence is worse off, we can just score more tries than them instead!

Thought we’d have started Myler with a switch around 50-55 minutes to a standing ovation, handing over to Grayson signalling a changing of the guard
Fodes will get his when he walks out first
We’re letting Brookes start and what has he done?

Yes my thoughts exactly. Why not stick with Hill & Painter as they are the future - although I don't know how big a shift Ehren put in on Monday. Is Luther injured?

The team selection shows a bit of progress finally (Brooke starting is a mystery)..

We are now bringing on some of the younger players - and yes they will be exposed at time defensively but they will never improve unless they get the nod occasionally.

So, good to see Grayson and Michell in the 23 (I suppose, i would also have started with Myler.. sentimental, maybe but the guy has been tremendous for us!)

We have a balanced backrow.. at last!!!

And, dare I say a back three of Foden, Collins and North could have been a winning combo for most of the year... guile, pace and bulk in that order.. Shame 2 of those guys are going (although I get the impression Taqele will be an able replacement!) but maybe they will put on a show tomorrow.

Lets hope the game goes well.. then we can put this year behind us and look forward..

Why oh why has it taken until the last game of the season to have all the backs playing in their proper position?

Couldn't play Fodes on the wing in his last game for the club...

Maybe we'll move him to 9 for the last 10mins when Reinach goes off, for old times' sake*

I suspect Myler is a replacement so that he can be given a standing ovation in his own right when he comes on for his final Saints appearance.

Football probably - with BT Sport needing to show 2 games live, 2 channels need to be free.
