This is a bit late in the day I know but as we don't have a game next weekend I'll bring it forward. Loughborough Students as the club is now known was formed in 1919 after WW1 as Loughborough Colleges merged with the Students Unions of the University of Technology in 1976, I'm glad they didn't go with the longer title. The post WW1 era saw them earn a reputation when they had future English captains on the books and in the sixties were playing against top teams in the country and they also won the UAU (Universities Athletic Union) cup seven times in that decade. In the 1970 - 1971 season they included six future internationals in the team and have over the years produced some 68 home internationals, including a few from other countries, 15 womens internationals and 18 men who went on to play for the Lions.

Loughborough declined a place in the R.F.U. league place in National Two initially joining later in 1996 when they started from the bottom of the league system. The various coaching stsff over the years is littered with many big names in the sportenabling Loughborougb to be the first "student" side in National League 2 North then on to National One where they have now been joined by Hartpury of course, also a cash rich Uni and both are now enjoying a great season in the B.U.C.S. Super Rugby involving the top eight university sides in the country with Loughborough being in top spot and Hartpury in second at the half way stage.

Like Hartpury, Loughborough are strong on the sporting emphasis and Loughborough are investing several million pounds in performance sport and facility use for the students over a dozen or more different sports,  ranging from some £500 up to £3500 and I belive they train three times a week.

Congratulations and good luck to Sara Cox on her appointment of referee this week.
