I suppose the club have to be 101% sure they are proceeding in the Championship before contracts are signed and players announced. Hopefully there is some action behind the scenes.

Anyone heard anything?

I was wondering if PD will drip feed signings or wait until we have signed a substantial number (10?) before announcing them. Presumably loanees will be announced later when MW sees where the gaps are in his squad.

Joe Ford, groan, what a total waste of money.

This is what was said about him last time:

"You get more loyality out of a Sainsbury's nectar card".

I only wish it was my orginal quote but it sums him up totaly.

He will bottle the tackles and not give 100 per cent.

Different shopping habits to the person who quoted this to me. My gut feeling is he a waste of what little money we have. I hope he comes at a very very reasonable price and proves me wrong.

I see Joe's signing as very positive. Firstly I thought the days of us seeing near-Premiership standard players, younger than 30 anyway, were gone. It also seems to confirm that the rfu statement was a red herring.

When Joe was with us under j-Lo, his natural RU-style kick-chase did not work with the RL run-the-ball philosophy at the time. Chris Stirling showed how kick-chase is an essential element of successful RU teams: we beat Irish last season using it and the All Blacks use it a lot.

I can see it from both sides here. I am not a massive fan of his playing style but Joe has experience and I think that's what we need.

Re: Players in - The phoenix thread.

I understand the criticism that Joe has from the "commitment" point of view. Sure he used to leave the pitch with the cleanest shirt and would go over to the wing in defensive mode. But one season he was our only 10, so carrying out "destructive" tackles was not an option. Also you cannot moan about a player that is trying to better himself, surely? Especially as an older brother of George and with a Dad who coaches big teams.
I feel that Joe has done his absolute best to become a Premiership-level player, the evidence is that he has fallen slightly short.
We know that commitment goes two ways and given the history of our club I do not blame Joe for moving away when perhaps the club did not have the funds to keep him on the salary he wanted.

At least we are seeing signings now. Have seen Tigers on TV last season with Joe Ford playing and he played well enough. He knows Headingley and is up for the challenge of re-establishing a credible rugby team alongside the new DOR so let’s support them and other signings to come.

Re: Players in - The phoenix thread.

In Leicesters somewhat dismal season and in the absence of his brother, Joe, in my view, was one of the brighter stars at the Leicester, gaining some Man of Match plaudits last season. Coming to us on the back of even more Premiership experience in not a bad thing. He is a good signing, but it also depends on what other "good signings" are going to end up at H this coming season. One man can't do the job on his own.

I am deeply uncomfortable with players being pursued for payment of their own medical costs. I see the signing of JF as a pragmatic step forward but rebuilding was never going to be easy after the mess of the end of last season. It does feel like 1 step forward, 2 back this morning.

Yeah

I suspect, like many supporters, I'm relieved that there is still a club to support.

But, if what Dan Temm is saying on Twitter is true, and there's absolutely no reason that I can see to doubt him, then the club has gone to some very dark places to get to this point. If players, who lets not forget, moved from the other side of the world to play for us now find themselves with bills for medical treatment after having the remainder of their contracts paid up at just 15p in the pound, then that is an absolute disgrace and completely inexcusable.

You just don't treat people like that.

As I said at the top, I'm relieved that there is still a club to support, but I'm not very proud of Yorkshire Carnegie at the moment.

What appears to have happened with the medical bills is that rather than the medical companies going into the CVA and then getting 15p/pound their contract allows them to pursue individual players directly. Definitely not good

Would have thought players have a case to specify that Club medics/physios were responsible for any referrals therefore making club responsible and the debtor.
Another point re Dan Temm was that he was the first to announce his departure and this was before any financial problems were public knowledge.

Rumours are that Tom Varndell, Simone Faletau (played for YC under Redpath), Lewis minikin (Hull Full Back), Andrew Lawson (Harrogate winter), Jake Brady (Lock, Darlington) and Ben Sowrey (hooker, wharfdale) have joined. Steve Salvin has joined as forwards/defence coach (recently Roth and England Counties).

Great news for I's to lose their full-back who was a contracted player....struggling to see how that is pleasing....are YC fans asking for more players to be plucked from contracted clubs to YC benefit and at the cost of those clubs? If that is the case that is as despicable

How else would YC get players anidiotabroad? How does any team sign players. It's the players choice in the end.
Players move around all clubs all the time.

I think a lot of the YC bashing has to stop.

It is a very difficult task (recruitment) and my comment is not YC bashing it is a simple statement of right and wrong. YC have, for all the years I have been personally involved with the player development pathway, relentlessly pushed their desire to produce players that could play at level 1 and International level all the way down through the pyramid in Yorkshire - they saw this a key player retention piece. To now destroy that work by approaching contracted players is a direct infringement of RFU regulations and morally wrong. I understand that normal recruitment activity was impossible by the timing of the CVA etc but surely, no fair minded YC fan, can condone the approaches made to players throughout L3, L4 and L5 in the County that will decimate some squads. My view would be the same irrespective of the club involved. Some things are just not defendable.

I wonder how vocal YF fans would be if the boot was on the other foot...……….I think we all know the answer to that one.

As ever a well explained viewpoint, AnIdiotabroad, and made from the heart, with personal knowledge.

With full respect to your views, there is another way at looking at things, though. Unlike many who have criticised us (Richmond?) we have tried to fulfil the rfu pathway, developing Yorkshire players in a academy system that sadly we ultimately could not afford.

We at least tried.

Perhaps we have a bit of slack now to "poach" players as ours have been poached by Wasps, Bath etc?

Hull Ionians must be wishing they were from the west of the Pennines.
THIS STINKS - I'M OUT.

If TRP is to be believed we now have 8 players.

I agree that we should change the name, but for different reasons.
On recruitment, what else can the club do if they are to continue? I agree that it is unfortunate that other teams are losing players at such a late stage in their preparations for the coming season. But year after year we have lost our best and most promising players to other, mainly Premiership, clubs.

In the professional game players will always want to play at the highest level. It is their decision whether to leave or not.

Players aren't being forced to come to Yorkshire. It is their choice

Why wouldn’t they like to play at Headingley Stadium and use the facilities there and at Kirkstall. Is there anywhere better in Yorkshire ?

Apparently, you have signed Tim Bitrim from Cambridge, who just joined Cambridge and managed zero games for Coventry and a few for Loughborough last season. Good luck with him, he is not a team player.

It's Bitirim btw. Three i's.
Have to say he's a good full-back - or was, on the day I watched him, and that was at level 3, so who knows if he's improved enough yet.
He certainly had potential though, and was the stand-out player for Luff that day.

Ok so the ground is great when packed but playing at Headingley with 1000 people there??
I watch rugby all round Yorkshire and can tell you that the match day experience at Donny is far better, with the after match at Rotherham being the best.
Training facilities at Donny are now at least on par with Kirkstall as they have their own 3G instead of having to fit around Rhino and community activity.

Also re the name, I was never a fan of the change and as someone who works in Sales and Marketing it has been a major flop. They need to go back and build on the "Leeds" sporting brand.

I stand corrected on his name.

Small lad, can't defend or kick, doesn't really pass.

Not how I recall him tbh.
That particular day he looked a class above his teammates, and cut the Cov defence to ribbons (ball in hand) several times. The rest of his game wasn't quite so impressive, admittedly, but to baldly claim 'can't' is slightly exaggerating things IMO.
As I said, whether he's improved enough to play at L2, I have no idea as I've not seen him since.

Couldn't agree more. The re-boot of the club is an opportune time to revert back to Leeds, and Tykes too. Otherwise we will be stuck with the name forever.

Posters have talked about supporting the club. It's not a club. Same management as before, rag tag of players and no real ethos. I have said my roots go back to roundhay and headingley. Real rugby clubs. Now it's a franchise kept together to suit the RFU.

Not sure why the rfu are responsible for the club being a club or not. They do seem to be bending over backwards to keep us in existence however.

The rfu did bend over backwards to the detriment of rugby. We should have dropped a few leagues
Found our ethos, management who care for the club and come back stronger

At the risk of sounding like a cracked record, we couldn't have dropped a few leagues. We either play at Headingley, with the costs that entails, or we fold.

I agree with Albert. The club would have folded if there was a points deduction and we were retrospectively relegated. If we survive the next season but get relegated I think we will fold.

We are in effect "Stade Headingley".

New name?????

Stopped being a club when Leeds Rugby sold out to Carnegie, then demolished the Rugby Club in the South Stand Car Park, started charging to go in to the Long Room which then led to folk drifting off after a game becauae they were getting bored standing around waiting for Bentos to polish his ego.
I can remember having a beer or two with players after the game when we had the club ethos. In fact I had a beer with Martin Johnson in the Rugby Club after a Leicester game because it had that club feel.
When we first got relegated and most of the players went their own way the Club became a squad of journeymen and whilst we managed to build a small band of players you could relate to the Club had died and had become a team.
Sadly the squad of players we had at the end of last season bonded due to the circumstances they faced and the Band of Brothers battled against the threat of uncertainty about their futures playing some brilliant rugby along the way.
I personally wouldn't want to see the team rebranded as Leeds Tykes because that would be an insult to those guys who formed the original playing squad.
