The Fezboys Celebrate Their 10th Anniversary

Where does the time go? Can you remember what you were doing in 1997? I was still playing, the country was preparing for a general election, Sella and Lynagh were Men in Black and six chaps at Southbury Road were looking to find a way of finding each other in the crowd on the way back from the bar.

McNab, Mush, Richardfez, Big Bri, Gonzo and (the still Fezless) Fezless Kev hit upon an idea that wearing something instantly recognisable would be just the ticket. And in those long-since-gone days of standing at Sarries games, they hit upon the idea of a hat that would stand out in the crowd.

In homage to the middle eastern heritage of the Saracens, they decided that they'd all wear a fez to the next game. Little did they know then, but the original six started something that turned Sarries' supporters into one of the most regognisable sets of fans thanks to that red felt hat with the tassle.

A decade on and with such lumiaries as Stuart Barnes, Ian Botham, Scott Gibbs and countless others having received the fez "treatment" the Fezboys are to throw a party at Sarries' spiritual home - Bramley Road - on Saturday 17 March, which is the last day of the Six Nations Championship, the day before Sarries play at home to Bristol and, of course, St Patrick's day.

On the night, which kicks off at 8pm, there'll be a late bar (until 1am it is hoped), some top tunes from DJ Rocket Ron and a live band, plus there will be some old Fez faces and some Sarries players past and present.
