Wales hooker Mefin Davies is close to a full time return to top flight rugby, with Gloucester set to announce his signing tommorow.

Davies looks to have played his last match on a part time contract with Neath, and in recent weeks as a replacement for the Ospreys. As first choice hooker during the Autumn internationals, the former Warriors should relish a return to the big time with the Zurich premiership club.

Stade Francais had apparently been interested in taking Davies to Paris recently, but the French side failed for a second time to sign him. Rumours suggest he may been tempted, had it not stipulated that he retire from international rugby.

However he is set for a switch to Kingsholm as the Cherry and whites look to lessen their injury woes, particularily at hooker.
