Andre Bester has named a 24 man squad ahead of the season’s opener against Moseley on Saturday. With 12 of the 24 players being new recruits, it will be fascinating to see how quickly the squad gels in National Division One.

TEAM NEWS

Looking ahead to the weekend Bester said, “Moseley are a very good running side, they won the division playing that way last season and I would expect them to play that way on Saturday. They have nothing to loose and everything to gain, they’ll give it a real go and come at us with everything that they have.

“But we will be ready for that, our preparation has been good and the players have worked very hard. Teams are going to loose games this season, but we want to have our destiny in our own hands.

“Our pre-season was good in as much it was good to away from home and compete with very good sides. We did that and that shows that we are on the right track – nothing more than that.

“People have commented on our style of play. Our style of play will be determined by the conditions and the opponents on the day. Look, I’m not in this to be popular, I’m in this to win matches and I don’t care how that is done as long as it is. If we are the ugliest team in the division and we win the division – I will take that.

“But I don’t want us to get ahead of ourselves, we will take each match as it comes and we start with Moseley on Saturday. They have a lot of history and tradition at their club and Saturday will be a big day for them. And there’s no doubt that we respect them, we have prepared hard and we will not take them for granted.”

FORM GUIDE

Obviously there’s not a lot of form coming into this one and pre-season games are as much about developing match fitness as anything else. But two good displays by Rotherham against top opposition has given the squad belief.

Moseley will be difficult opposition as they try and make an instant mark on their return to the division. But if Rotherham are going to be challenging at the upper end of the division then games like these need to be won. And providing the Rotherham players are mentally tuned in for this one right from the start, they should come away with the victory.
