WannaBees off to a Good Start

The newly-formed Pertemps Bees/Stourbridge combined midweek side made their bow with a crushing 52-15 win over Rugby Lions at Webb Ellis Road last night.

The combined side was set up with the aim of giving regular rugby to squad members from each club and the opening game certainly achieved that objective.

"As a game it wasn't a great spectacle but the main thing was that we were able to give some valuable match time to players who have missed on league rugby so far this season," said Phil Maynard, Pertemps Bees' director of rugby.

"It also allowed Ed Orgee to play a full game and for Adrian Olver to have his first rugby since he joined us from Coventry so it was a very vaulable exercise."

Orgee, who missed last Saturday's win over Plymouth Albion because of an eye injury, played the full 80 minutes. Olver, the experienced prop, played the second-half, his first rugby since he sustained a back injury in pre-season training.

Orgee will come back into contention for a place in the side for the National League One game against London Welsh at Old Deer Park on Saturday September 17.

Full-back Aaron Takarangi, unlucky to miss out on a place in the league side so far this season, pressed his claims by running in a first-half hat-trick of tries which helped the combined side establish a 33-3 lead at the break.

The other tries were scored by hooker Ben Gerry, flanker Hese Fakatou, wingers Roman Piotrowski and Allan Gill and fly- half Joe Wearn. Player/coach Ben Harvey converted six ofthe tries to put the seal on an emphatic victory.
