Furious Dave Addleton slams Coventry after home horror show
By John Wilkinson, Coventry Telegraph
March 14 2011
FORWARDS coach Dave Addleton described Coventry’s performance as ‘totally unacceptable’ after they slumped to a 34-25 home defeat against National League One stragglers Launceston.Cov, who now have the worst defensive record in the division, conceded six tries to the bottom side on a miserable afternoon at the Butts Park Arena compounded by an injury to centre Nat McDonald, who broke his wrist midway through the first half.

Agger's reaction, to "slam Coventry's performance as totally unacceptable" is very true, but you wonder whether he has the right to go public with such comments.
It's not dissimilar to Mark Leivrement's comments after the French lost in Italy on Saturday.
What player would want to play for someone in authority/management who had gone public with such a negative reaction? What player would feel motivated to do so?
We're back to LOL's (Dave R) posting about where the problems and their resolutions might lie.

Yes, but Lievrement is a complete and utter brain-out tw@. I'd be a bit wary of putting Aggie in the same bracket as him if I were you..

Dave can moan all he likes, but the last time I looked he was a key member of the coaching staff.

i think we all know Aggie has got blue blood, but he can only work with what he's got and he ain't done bad with it, but ( that word again ), the players we have are now being found out, those good enough and those that are not,and not many looking as though they'll be playing for Cov next season, if they are we'll have the same problems as this season

Hipflask, have you got any ideas who is and who isn't staying? The problem i see is where we get replacements from? We haven't got buckets of money to attract players and Cov's stature will no longer be enough, i think they have most of the local talented lads playing already??

A complete and utter brain-out tw%t Lievrement may be, Kimbo, but I still don't feel that Aggers has shown any dignity in publicly berating the players. Berate them in private, yes, but to publicly criticise is not the style of management which appeals to me and, I believe, is not best suited to getting the most positive response out of the players.

I agree with everything that's been said. One of the things you first learn in effective management of staff is that berating staff in public is not the way to go.Addleton will have lost respect from the players for his outburst. What does it say in the bible - 'remove the plank from your own eye before removing the splinter from another's ? Aggie should take a long hard look at himself as a coach first !

I have no great respect for PM's abilities(?) as a DoM, but it's not he who has publicly slated the players.

charlie bravo ,must be a player or part of the set up, aggers has every right to make such comments, quite mild in my book, aggers pedigree as a player and in his time as coach is tremendous, his squad are quite pathetic and of course are way below the quality in skill and desire that is required, get off your soap box bravo and take it like a man

No, marvo, as Kimbo so rightly implies, (although I don't think he he had to be quite so derogatory, but that's Kimbo) I'm not part of the set up in any shape or form, nor have I ever have been. Just as I presume you are, I'm a dedicated fan with the best interests of Cov at heart, and I don't have a soap box.
It would appear that we are going to have to agree to disagree on this subject.

...I don't think Aggy has said anything out of order in his assessment of the teams performance that other 'very good' coaches haven't said before, he's used 'WE' alot which implies to me that he and the players and the other coaches are feeling it and have to find ways to improve, ..have a look at some of Martin Johnsons after match rants? or Cockers...these people are passionate about the clubs/teams they coach and only want success for the team/players/supporters/club
To put Aggy in the same category as the 'Idiot' Leivremont ? 83 of the best players in France used! no sorry Aggy is doing and has done nothing but good for CRFC his passion and commitment to the club should never be doubted ...and he can do the Forwards coaching job blindfolded! which is rubbing off on his charges Nick Southern? etc It would appear the defence is letting us down...which the club are addressing..(Rossborough should dust off his tracksuit) KEEP THE FAITH...hard to stomach but what a difference a season can make..we are going as a club in the right direction..lol hard to see when we're teetering I know! but, fingers crossed the lads can do it for us all

Defence can only work as a TEAM and thats what cov are not doing and then holes are bound to appear and trys being leaked which is happening week in and week out. better teams grind you down and pull players out of position creating holes all cov can do is work on this which i know they are doing.as they say attack is the best form of defence but cov need to start keeping possession and playing running rugby in the opposition half. but to me at the end of the day if the players are not good enough it doesn't matter what the coaching staff work on the skill level isn't there........

I think you are probably right jamie. If there is no evidence to show that the coaches are not doing their job, and I have no such evidnce before me, then it does come down to player performance. I have said previously, that perhaps we are expecting too much from a new, young squad. Most of the teams in this division have a more settled side, and in some cases deeper pockets. We can only hope Cov grind out a couple of wins.

It's not that I don't believe Aggers has a right to his view or that he should express them. It's just that I believe he should not go public with such slating and derogatory comments. What he sais belongs in the changing room, addressed to the players. I can't accept that such comments should be put out into the public domain, for all to digest.
