Luke Myring: Draw finally saw Coventry get back on the front
By Coventry Telegraph. March 1 2012
IT’S been said many times before, but it’s true –what a difference a week makes in sport.
Last week I wrote about how we were crushed by Macclesfield and that as individuals within the team it was time to take some responsibility and stand up. After a few hard words from the management I think that’s exactly what we got on Saturday.
It was always going to be a massive test against Blaydon away and the day didn’t start too well. On route to the bus our ever-present fly-half Elliott Read tripped over a fence and picked up an injury that ruled him out of the game.
This seems impossible when the fence is only 2ft tall but when you’re on the vertically challenged side that’s one hell of an obstacle to try to hurdle!
All joking aside, I’m gutted for Elliott and we add another name to the seemingly ever-growing injury list. I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
Given the start to the day and our recent form along with the long journey up there things were seemingly against us. What we got, however, was an unrecognisable Coventry team from recent weeks!
The boys fronted up and came home with a massive 17-17 draw and a much-needed two points. And it says a lot about the team that the overriding feeling was disappointment after the game as we were the team pushing hard for the win at the end. It’s a massive boost to squad and a result which hopefully will reignite the confidence within, however we have to see this as the first step in the right direction and it will mean very little unless we can take the next step and back it up this week, on the road again at high flying Rosslyn Park.
They will be looking for revenge from earlier on in the season when to be fair the 30-29 score line in our favour at the BPA flattered them.
