Will Hafu sets testing targets for remainder of NL1 season

COVENTRY hooker Will Hafu has set his side the twin challenges of remaining unbeaten until the end of the season – and doing so without conceding a try.

The experienced front rower was part of the side that dug deep to beat Birmingham & Solihull 26-25 on Saturday in what was Cov’s first away win since mid-October.

As a result the Tongan has now not tasted defeat in any of the four starts he has made since arriving from Rosslyn Park last month and he wants to double that tally over the next few weeks.

But he won’t be happy with just beating Blaydon, Blackheath, Ealing, Jersey and Cinderford, Hafu says Cov must aim to maintain their recent defensive improvements.

“We most definitely want to go undefeated for the rest of the season, that’s important,” Hafu said. “And not conceding any more tries is something we should also strive for.

“We have been really pushing our defence in the last few weeks, our attack speaks for itself but for us defence is where it lies. It is something we can have a go at if we get our penalty count down. It’s certainly not impossible.

“We have got a really strong defensive line, we have been workingtogether on our new patterns we’re almost like a rugby league side now getting up so quickly.

“It’s suiting the younger guys and although it’s quite demanding fitness-wise it’s something we are looking to improve. I’d like us to really push on with that.”
