One of the biggest items of news that seems to have broken loose from last night’s forum, is that the club are in talks with Coventry City about the possibility of a ground sharing arrangement at the Butts.
Given the ongoing legal saga between SISU (Coventry City’s owners) and Coventry City Council, there has been talk for some time that a ground share with Coventry RFC might suit all parties. Les Reid of the Coventry Observer first broke the story some time ago, but until yesterday it all seemed to go fairly quiet.
Now it’s back with a bang, with it being discussed in the forum last night and further interviews with Jon Sharp in the Coventry Evening Telegraph and the Coventry Observer again today.
It’s still early days yet and there seem to be a number of hurdles to overcome, not least of which are planning permission and seemingly the Council’s possible opposition to the move for other reasons. According to the Observer article, the Council have asked the club to sign a legal covenant preventing professional football from being played at the BPA.
Interesting times both on and off the field at the Butts at the moment – I don’t doubt this is going to generate a lot of different opinions.
The stories in the CET and the Observer are linked to in full below.
