WARRINGTON WOLVES v WIGAN WARRIORS

The Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington
Sunday 5th August 2007, 15:00

Warrington Wolves welcome local rivals Wigan Warriors to the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday looking to complete the league double of the Warriors for the second successive season following the 16-10 away victory at the JJB Stadium back in Round 1 of Super League XII.

The Warriors make the short trip up the A49 for the second successive sunday following last weeks Carnegie Challenge Cup Semi-Final fixture against the Catalans Dragons with the French running out 24-37 victors and on the road to Wembley to face St. Helens.

Warrington will be hoping to make it 4 wins on the spin on Sunday following victories in the past 3 fixtures against Huddersfield, Salford and Hull KR which have seen the Wolves move clear of the drop zone and back into the playoffs.

Wigan dropped from 4th to 9th in the Super League table last week following a 4 point deduction for a breach of the salary cap during the 2006 season, with the Warriors finishing three points ahead of the relegated Castleford Tigers. Castleford are expected to take legal procedings against both the RFL and Wigan Warriors because had Wigan been deducted the 4 points at the end of the 2006 season Castleford would have stayed in the Super League and Wigan would have been relegated. Relegation from the Super League cost Castleford £millions.

Good news for Warrington is that Paul Cullen has finnaly signed a new 2 year contract to keep him at the Halliwell Jones Stadium until 2009. Hopefuly this will enable the team to focus on the remaining fixtures and possibly a top 4 finish in the Super League table.

Wigan Warriors have yet to record a victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium following 4 defeats to the Wolves since 2004 and last weeks Challenge Cup Semi-Final loss to Catalans Dragons and the Wolves will be looking to make this continue come 4:35 on Sunday afternoon.
