Injury news looks brighter for Glaws

All Blacks prop Greg Somerville is in the Gloucester squad for the weekend's Heinken Cup clash with Calvisano at Kingsholm, and there's also some encouraging news on some of the club's injuries. Alistair Strokosch will miss the game with the after-effects of the piunch he took from CNicola Cattina in last week's game in Italy.

While Somerville is available now, earlier than wa sfirst expected when he signed for Glaws, Alex Brown (jaw), Iain Balshaw (groin), Andy Hazell (knee) and Anthony Allen (right - ankle) are all expected back in action later this month so the Glaws squad is beginning to look stronger after an injury-hit start to the season.
Players who have been out long-term, Gareth Delve and Akapusi Qera with knee injuries and James Simpson-Daniel (ankle) are all hoping to be fit by January, so all being well coach Dean Ryan will have a strong suad to choose from in the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, assistant coach Brian Redpath told the Citizen: "Strokosch is fine. He took a big whack. He had a little bit of a headache and stuff and other little niggles as well.
"He'll be fine but he did have a bit of blurred vision in his right eye. We wouldn't risk someone with a head injury."
The reference to "and stuff" there is clearly a medical term which the likes of us common folk wouldn't understand.
Meanwhile, Glaws must not only beat Calvisano, but do so with bonus point and hope that Cardiff Blues come unstuck at Biarritiz - a combination of results which would throw the qualifying group wide open.
