WW - off to W

Popular utility back Willie Walker has moved so far down the pecking order at Gloucester following the arrival of Carlos Spencer that he has been allowed to join Worcester on loan for the rest of the season. Many fans will be said to see a club servant of his calibre leave, but it's probably in his best interests to give himself more chance of a regular senior game.

Carlos Spencer, Northampton SaintsWalker isn't the only Kingsholm player whose prospects have been dented by the arrival of Spencer (right), of course, but he is the one who appears to have lost out the most in a move that underliones how much of a big business club rugby has become.
Spencer won't have come cheap after his departure from Northampton, and the Kingsholm balance sheet probably needed to be cut back a little to allow for the deal to be done.
WW has played 17 games this season, scoring tries against Bath and Wasps. He has played 64 times for Glaws in three seasons, scoring six tries.
Coach Dean Ryan told the Citizen: “Willie is an outstanding professional and has made a significant contribution to us this season.
“He is versatile enough to be deployed in a number of positions and has been a valuable asset to the club since he joined.
“But the arrival of Carlos Spencer is likely to restrict his opportunities in the coming weeks and for that reason we feel it is prudent to look at this loan arrangement until the end of the season. I am sure he will be a success at Worcester.”
It's not clear yet whether Walker will be allowed to play when the teams meet at Sixways on March 22.

Not entirely unexpected. He only stayed with us another season because Paterson left. Until the end of the season, this gives him first class game time and we can, no doubt, call him back if we need him.

We've got Spencer now. It's a good move to loan him out. It saves money and keeps WW match fit should we need him. Excellent work, DR.(Sm127)
