Losing 35-6 at home in any circumstances, in any competition and against any opposition is a bad result. In Gloucester’s case against Wasps at Kingsholm on Saturday it wasn’t just bad … it was bl***y awful. Glaws weren’t only beaten, they were outclassed, outpaced, outfought, out-thought and out-manoevered.
The team ended up embarrassed, the fans were left dumfounded and not a single player came through the game with any degree of credit.
All teams have black days, and that is certainly what this was for Glaws and coming a week after their Heineken Cup mauling at Biarritz it poses a very big question – can Glaws fight their way out of the corner they have found themselves in.
Forget the excuses, coach Bryan Redpath and the players, as well as the men who occupy the corridors of power at Kingsholm, have to shoulder their share of the blame for the situation the club finds itself in, and once they have done that they need to decide what needs to be done … a do it.
Redpath told the BBC: "We didn't create enough pressure to get points. We won't hide from the fact that it was a poor performance and, if you perform like that, you are never going to compete.
"They were excellent and defended well. We are lacking massively in confidence and I don't question our work ethic but there are a lot of things to do.
"Everyone has to be realistic and know what their part in the game is. If someone has not got a clear understanding of it, they must say. Sometimes people hide behind barriers.
"For me, it is a tough time in my career as a coach. I won't hide from my responsibility and I certainly won't hide from taking responsibility for this heavy defeat at home which is disappointing."
So Redpath is holding his hands up … who’s next in the queue to admit some responsibility? It’s not ALL his fault, surely.
Carlos Spencer kicked two Glaws penalties, while Wasps scored four tries, three converted, and three penalties.
Not a good day for anybody of a cherry and white persuasion. But there have been bad days before, there have been bad seasons before.

Redpath talks a good game and the players seem to genuinely like him but he is being badly let down by Betts and Hogg and they need to go.
Whilst Boer is here, pick his brains on where it is going wrong and set about sorting the forwards out because it is pointless having talent in the threequarters if they are not getting decent ball.
Glaws are falling back into bad habits and having too many forwards cluttering up the back division is not the way to go. It is pointless standing out in the wings if half a dozen of your pack are getting turned over at the breakdown.
Mind you it is pointless winning ball if you cant hold onto it. I cant remember a time I have watched a Glaws side make so many unforced handling errors.
It is getting to the stage I am questioning why I pay out 36 quid a time to watch such dross.
I have seen some struggling Glaws sides in my time and can forgive a great deal if I am seeing passion,heart and commitment but at this moment I am at the lowest ebb I have ever personally been and the performance levels need sorting out at Glaws or they will be trapped in a vicious circle of lower attendances = less money for players = worse performances = lower attendances etc etc
