Reasons to be cheerful at Glaws

It's been a strange close-season for Gloucester and the club's fans, and it's difficult to decide whether we should be hopeful, anxious or puzzled over the future as pre-seasson training continues and the new season approaches.

With an almost totally new coaching set-up in place under Nigel Davies and a handful of new players, all them them with impressive qualifications, it’s tempting to feel confident for 2012-13.

But, of course, we’ve gone into many previous seasons with high hopes and have all too often been disappointed – like 2011-12, for instance.

But with a new coach boasting top credentials, a new executive chairman who has demonstrated that while he lacks experience he is determined to take advice from those who have experience as he searches for success and some top talent, old and new, why shouldn’t Glaws be upbeat?

With Mike Tindall starting a new career as player coach, Davies has brought in Paul Moriarty from Newcastle Falcons as defence coach and he is also on the look-out for a new scrum coach.

To make it a clean sweep of new faces, there’s a new managing director in Chris Ferguson.

The recent fans forum at Kingsholm made all the right noises, as you expect it to, of course.

But there was a freshness about the approach and those who answered questions from the floor which will hopefully still be there when the action starts.

It appears that everybody at Kingsholm knows the size of the task they face as they try to rescue the club and the team from mediocrity and they are all determined to succeed.

Changes were needed and changes have been made … all we have to do now is wait and see if they are enough.
