Wigan Warriors 44-10 Celtic Crusaders

The Celtic Crusaders suffered their tenth consecutive defeat of the new season on Sunday afternoon as they slumped to 44-10 defeat at the hand of a rampant Wigan Warriors outfit. The Lancastrian club controlled proceedings for long periods at a sunny JJB Stadium – though Cru did muster up scores from Luke Dyer and Mark Dalle Cort.

This was always going to be a difficult ask. Wigan have enjoyed a less than satisfactory start to the new season and were chomping at the bit to please their supporters with a convincing win.

Cru were again without a handful of their best players - with the likes of Tony Duggan, Matty Smith, Geraint Davies and Mark Lennon all still in the treatment room.

Things, however, started superbly for the small band of travelling fans as Dyer ran over to break the deadlock after only two minutes. Dyer did brilliantly to pounce on Jace Van Dijk's tame kick to hand the South Wales club a surprise lead.

However, Wigan hit back within four minutes and would go onto score four first-half tries through Pat Richards, Sean O'Loughlin, Mark Riddell and Amos Roberts.

Wigan were dominating proceedings and continued to score at will after the break. Sam Tomkings, George Carmont, O'Louighlin and Richards handed them a massive 34-point lead before Dalle Cort scored a consolation try for the visitors. Van Dijk converted to take Cru into double figures.

The Warriors grabbed the final try of the game as Tomkins became the third home player to secure a brace on another miserable afternoon for John Dixon's men. Next up is the Castleford Tigers next Sunday.
