Oldham Roughyeds 48-34 South Wales Scorpions

Mark Rowley's South Wales Scorpions ran over their 200th try on Sunday afternoon, but still suffered defeat at Oldham. As a disappointing league campaign came to an end, the Scorpions bravely went down to a 48-34 loss at Whitebank - but picked up a try-scoring bonus point.

Steve Parry scored a brace and there were tries for Aled James, Andrew Gay, Casey Bromilow and Curtis Cunningham - but it wasn't enough for the Scorpions in Lancashire. Danny Bravo scored a hat-trick for the home side and there was two for Ben Heaton as the Roughyeds finished the season with a deserved win, gaining revenge for their defeat at Caerphilly. Rowley's Scorpions may take some heart from scoring six tries against play-off bound Oldham; whilst Jamie Murphy fired over ten points with the boot. The Scorpions must wait until Monday evening to wait and see where they will finish in Championship One. An unlikely victory for the London Skolars at home to Keighley - or a draw and a bonus point - will see them leap-frog the South Walians. Though the Scorpions have played their final league fixture, the final matches of the season take place on September 2nd before the play-offs get underway. Sunday's game brought the curtain down on a poor second season for South Wales RLFC. After making the play-offs last season, the Scorpions missed the top seven this time around and fell at the first hurdle in the Challenge Cup against Dewsbury Rams. Following the sad demise of the Crusaders and with the much-anticipated Four Nations looming this summer, Welsh Rugby League is at a crossroads!
