Reece joins Ponty

The Scorpions have been dealt a major blow with the news that influential back Lewis Reece has quit the sport and joined Pontypridd, who won the Welsh Premiership last season. Youngster Reece has been a top performer with the Scorpions since the Neath club was formed two years ago.

Reece, 20, holds the club record for goals scored and will be sorely missed by the Scorpions faithful.

He missed the last two games of the league campaign last season due to involvement in the Welsh Sevens squad.

Rumours suggest his strong performances in Championship One attracted interest from a host of Welsh union sides.

He will be hoping to impress enough at Sardis Road to earn the opportunity to be involved with the Cardiff Blues at a regional level.

Reece joins the defending Welsh champions, who lifted the crown after finishing seven points clear of Neath last season.

Club manager Mark Rowley has expressed disappointment, but accepts the deal at Ponty was "too good" for the player to turn down.

Pontypridd opened up their Welsh Premiership campaign this season with a forty point hammering of Tonmawr.

Good luck - at least in these open times he can always come back to RL.

Personally I think a Kairdiff boy signing for Ponty is sacrilage, but in all seriousness, Its a good move for 'screech' if he can get a regular spot in one of our best amateur union sides and then work his way into the Blues set up which shouldn't be a problem for him considering what Ive seen the last couples of matches there. His workrate and skills with ball in hand are very much in demand.

Its also a positive sign that Union see our players as having potential , we just have to work harder to keep them in our sport.
