South Wales Scorpions 12-44 Oldham Roughyeds

South Wales Scorpions suffered yet another heavy defeat as Oldham left Neath with a 44-12 victory. The Roughyeds ran in eight tries to heap more misery on Dave Clark’s men, who continue to suffer the embarrassment of having conceded more than 30 points in every single league game this season.

James Dallimore was the hero for Oldham with 16 points – including 6 successful conversions – as the Lancastrians secured an easy win at The Gnoll.

Clark’s Scorpions were victorious at Oldham earlier in the season, but looked a shadow of the side that won away that day with a poor display, which lacked both defensive guile and imagination going forward.

Despite a strong start to the season, Oldham have largely struggled this campaign. However, they burst out of the traps in South Wales with two early tries.  Scorpions could only match that tally in the entire 80 minutes.

Alex Thompson scored a brace for the visitors, with David Cookson, Paul Smith, John Gillam, Chris Murphy and Mark McCully all crossing the whitewash.

The way in which the Roughyeds executed a string of textbook attacking moves delighted Oldham’s vocal travelling support – one of the most impressive RL away followings seen at the Gnoll this season.

Alan Pope and Courtney Davies ran over tries for the Scorpions, with Shaun Owens converting both - but those score provide little consolation for Clark’s side, who continue to struggle at the wrong end of the Championship One table.

Oldham, who last competed in the Super League in 1997, maintained their slim promotion hopes with this victory. Scorpions fans – whose team sits next to bottom - are just thankful that Gateshead Thunder are so bad!
