The Season So Far: Ladies' Captain's Thoughts

As the Harlequin Ladies prepare for the second half of their season, currently sitting sixth in the league table, 1st XV Captain, Vicky Gallagher, reflects on the season so far and her hopes for the coming months.

This has certainly been a season of rebuilding, with a large changeover of players in the Summer, and several of our younger teammates heading off to university. We were fortunately able to welcome many new players into our club and to see new faces breaking into the first team.

The past few months have therefore seen the team gel together, and begin to play as a more cohesive unit. This was evident in the improved performance and resulting scoreline in our last league game. I was pleased to end the first half of the season with a win, and to see us starting to find our form and show the ability that we have.

Division 1 South-East has certainly proved to be a very challenging league, but I hope to see us get a few more wins under our belts in this second half of the season, and aim for every scoreline to be an improvement on the first set of results. With some strong opposition coming up, against teams from the top end of the table, performance is key and I want us to show how well we can play together as a team. The reults will then hopefully reflect this.

Junior Rugby for Girls

Back in December, the Harlequin Ladies hosted their first coaching day for Junior Girls at Kingston Rugby League Club in Claygate, Surrey. The session aimed to introduce basic rugby skills to girls and for some it was their first experience of rugby. For others it was a chance to develop the skills that had been introduced to them in school.

The Ladies will be hosting another session in a few weeks time, and this free opportunity is available to all girls from Years 4, 5 and 6. More details to follow shortly.
