Posted early this week to help those heading for Biarritz to set their videos (bring me back some munchies, please!) For those of us staying closer to home, details of several live games to watch, as well as the all important game in Biarritz.
RUGBY ON TV, WEEKEND OF FRIDAY 18 TO SUNDAY 20 OCTOBER
EUROPEAN CUP
Friday 18 October
1915-2130 BBC2 Wales (SKY961) Scrum V Live – Newport v Toulouse – kick off 1930 – Toulouse look to follow up their win over London Irish whilst Newport are looking for their first points. Eddie Butler and Jonathan Davies in attendance – make sure all pets are safe. Interactive audio – listen to the ref, the crowd, or Radio Cymru commentary. Or JD, if you like that sort of thing.
2145-2315 British Eurosport (SKY 412) – Highlights of above game. Without Mr Davies.
1845-2100 BBC2 Northern Ireland (SKY962) – Ulster v Cardiff – the two losers this weekend in our pool get it on at Ravenhill. Commentary from Jim Neilly (underrated, imho.)
Saturday 19 October
1440(app)-1700 BBC1 -Grandstand – Bristol v Montferrand. This weekend’s main offering from the Beeb. Probably with Eddie Butler as commentator; sadly no alternative available via the red button. A pity.
1730-1915 British Eurosport (SKY412) – BIARRITZ v SAINTS – Delayed, but very welcome coverage of this vital game for Saints. Both teams won this weekend and the winner will go top of the group at the end of the first pairing of matches. Don’t know who the commentator over here is, but one T Lacroix is listed as commentator for FR2. Now, will you get through to the transmission on TV without knowing the result? Watch out, Flint’s about! *
1915 – 2130 British Eurosport (SKY412) – Swansea v Leinster – live coverage of this game from St Helen’s. Advance betting advice – sell the time of the first yellow card….unless the referee is A Lombardi…..
1710 – 1915 S4C (SKY184) – Y Clwb Rygbi – Pontypridd v Roma. Live Parker Pen action. Welsh with English subtitles – which led to a surreal TV moment when Ray Gravell was trying to conduct a post-match interview with the Biarritz man of the match in Welsh, English and French at the same time!
Sunday 20 October
1300 – 1400 S4C (SKY 184) – Y Clwb – Highlights from the weekend
1640 – 1740 Scottish/Grampian/Border(Scot) – Scotsport includes Boroughmuir v Melrose.
1945 – 2000 BBC2 Wales (SKY961) – Scrum V – 15 min round-up of the weekend’s action
OTHER RUGBY

1200-1400 – SkySports2 (SKY 402) – NPC action
1400-1800 – Sky Sports2 (SKY402) – Currie Cup action
1930-2230 – SkySports3(SKY403) – Highlights of both the above
Sunday 20 October
0730-0930 – SkySports2 (SKY402) – NPC action
2300-0100 – SkySports2 (SKY402) – NPC action
Monday 21 October
0400-0410 – Rugby Strip (The Adult Channel) – um, how can I put this? You know when you do a search for all “rugby” related programming? Well, look what came up…..
And, in case my reader was wondering about the *, the reference to Flint comes from the episode of The Likely Lads where they are trying to avoid hearing the match result before the highlights come on after the news.
Enjoy your weekend's viewing - whether in France, or at the Cannes Inn......
