Purely out of curiosity are decisions to remove/edit posts or ban contributors made individually or collectively by the editors ?

Collectively if possible but individually if quick action is needed and the action then notified to the rest of us.

For the sake of clarification could you tell me exactly what constitutes one of the articles you have to publish each fortnight? Does it have to be a certain length? Do previews/reviews count? I notice that an interesting piece by Chris G was "made" into an article so is there something that separates a subject that someone starts a thread on from an article?

Is it just anything pertaining to Saints or rugby or are there specific things that are required?

I'll be putting up a post tomorrow SaintEd that should answer all your questions and hopefully set you off as a new author.

Tim alluded to this in a thread somewhere below. The SportNetwork (SN) model is based in advertising revenue which keeps the site free for its users.

Advertisers get far more "clicks through" via articles than a message-board so SN (and COYSDC) get revenue via the published articles. Revenue from the messageboard is so negligible it can be ignored.

So, here's how it works with SN. The editors of each site undertake to publish a piece at least every 14 days - in return we get a messageboard to play with. No articles and the site goes into "hibernation" until new content is posted. This has NEVER happened with COYSDC but you may have seen the Wasps site (and perhaps others) disappear a couple of times last season - that's the reason why - no stories published in a timely manner.

This is one of the reasons why we nag about previews and the like - it keeps the site "live".

With the summer upon us, we are going to need content - any thoughts pertaining to Saints or the general rugby world would be welcomed!

Thank you and to phil too. I get the requirement for articles I just was a bit unsure about content. Will read the post tomorrow. I make no promises as to quality but I am willing to give the writing a ago.

Would be interested to read SainstmanToms piece too. There was an interesting point made on Tigs site a while ago about financing in rugby and a point about clubs (and players?) being able to benefit from soft loans whilst other clubs had to take normal commercial ones.

Thanks Eds for the post and the information and a big thank you to you all for the hard work you put in to make this forum a (largely) enjoyable place to come and to discuss all things Saintly.

I wasn't fully aware of the importance of the previews/reviews in respect of the operation of the site, and I have a couple of thoughts for something in the closed season so, if it is okay, I will get scribbling.

Some of the discussions on here might frighten a few people off getting involved, talk of potential libel actions & editors having to deal with all sorts of problems, so maybe an outsider's view will be of use.

I am an editor of the Newcastle Falcons site. Stuck up here away from the rest of England, where there are more sheep than people we probably have the smallest support base in the Premiership, so in many ways the complete opposite of the Saints. The Saints supporters Sportnetwork site is very unusual to say the least, having a limited company set up to run it with shareholders, directors, a committee of editors & all that. That might seem a bit daunting, but it really doesn't affect the way the supporters use & contribute to the site. All other Sportnetwork sites as far as I know are the same as ours, just one or two editors usually, and if you are lucky a couple of nutters who take the time to write reports & stories. It really is all very simple, and most of the time enjoyable too.

The stories are a very important bit as they keep the site up & running. No story & the message board disappears. It isn't a big deal if it does disappear, and most other sites go off every now & then for a couple of hours as the editors usually have jobs to do in the real world & don't notice that the last story was put up 2 weeks ago. Nobody dies, the world doesn't end, it just means no message board for a couple of hours until one of the eds notices & can put a story up. It really is important however to have these stories, so if you can then please do write something up, and it can be anything saints related that will be of interest to your fellow supporters. Send a PM or email to one of your eds & especially during the summer break I am sure they will be glad to receive it. Match previews & reports are always required during the season, and a different perspective from a different author makes a nice change for your fellow supporters to read.

The other part that is obviously important is the message board, as that is what brings life to the site. Without Saints supporters swapping views with each other this site would be nothing, it really is central to the whole shebang. I don't know the details but I gather there has been a bit of upset on the message board recently, well unfortunately it happens but thankfully not very often & it will blow over. It is a timely reminder however that all supporters have a responsibility to keep the message board as friendly & open to all as possible. That doesn't mean everyone has to be positive & cheery all the time, after all you should be able to have a good rant on here along with your fellow supporters when you feel it is appropriate. What it does mean is that you have to respect the views of other people, even if you disagree with them. If you have a good rant about the team being utter rubbish after what you see as a poor game, don't call somebody else an idiot if they choose to point out the good bits & say that actually they weren't rubbish after all. Different views & varied opinions are what the message board is all about, just remember that you all support the same team, you all want the same thing, and emotions can run high.

Most important of all is that posting on here, reading other people's thoughts, sharing opinions & stories about the team that you love should be fun. If you enjoy yourselves & allow others to enjoy themselves too, everything will be just fine.
